Dan Graziano: Panthers will trade Diontae Johnson

I have to say it doesn't exactly inspire much confidence in Morgan that he's been desperate to ink this guy to an extension while he throws the rest of his team under the bus and mails it in. Haven't we seen this story before? Sounds a lot like Scott Fitterer to me.

Do we know the chronology of it?

I'm still trying to figure out 'the offense was changed three times' (or the playbook, whatever was said). Original concept? Again when Bryce revealed his skill set? Reverting to number 1 for Dalton in Seattle? That's technically 3.

Reporters..... nowadays it's just men gossiping. Now women get to do it too, and that's their forte. It isn't going anywhere and it is left to us to decipher.

Sheena quick said we have been trying to sign him and no movement.  She said this on spaces on monday

I mean I understand that from his agent's standpoint. WRs are getting PAID right now. Why wouldn't they want him to hit the open market this offseason

Yeah true.

If we extended him he'd probably blow out his achilles anyway. And he knows it lol.

lol about to lose Johnson and Jackson for a conditional 5th pick

the panthers way, talent farm for other teams

The Browns were this for a very long time. That is us now.

He also is stopping/giving up on routes. Not good for a culture change….

I think we're just plain fuged. Tepper has ruined us. We're hopeless. Front office knows it, coaches know it, locker room knows it, media knows it, fanbase knows it. It's just ole big brain Dave up there who thinks he's smarter than everyone else who just can't accept that he's a dumbass when it comes to football.

It's the right move if we're not gonna re-sign him but unless he's an absolute locker room cancer we should be re-signing him.

Yeah I don’t see the issue signing a guy for 2-3 years when it’s unlikely we see the playoffs any sooner than that.

There's no "probably". Any player re-signed to a big deal here will forever be on IR by Week 2 at the absolute latest.

If he was that good, WR desperate Pittsburgh wouldn’t have dealt him. This “separation” urban legend is comical

I mean, I can see that he can be a problem on the sidelines and in the locker room, that's why Pittsburgh traded him (well that and D-Jac who has been pretty good up there with three picks and all), but the separation stats are the stats. The Next Gen stat specialists aren't analyzing for sh¡ts and giggles, and when Johnson is engaged he passes the eye test with flying colors. If he's disengaged, he becomes somewhat of a malcontent, and that's the issue.

I mean, I can't blame him for being upset about being here. Still, it did look like he quit Sunday.

Yea that 2nd int was entirely on him.  Dalton trusted him in a 1v1 match up and threw it pretty much blindly and Johnson totally quit on the route.  #1 receivers don't do that.

    • If there's another QB that came to the combine after packing on 15 lbs of water weight to hide his playing weight, I don't remember it.  I understand it's all part of the pre-draft game, and he participated. The FO was stupid and ignored huge red flags.  On a side note though, I was at the airport a few weeks ago and saw a basketball team going through and decided to try and look through them. I'm 6'2 and these guys were 6'6 and up. I was amazed by how much I couldn't see around them. And these guys weren't 300 plus in pads. I still think he's having a hell of a time seeing the field at the NFL speed.
    • There is merit to the points you're making here. On the flip side one could argue it took us investing 150 million in the oline for him to have a breakout season. And he has still yet to hit 1k rushing yards in a season. As far as Brooks goes the position does not require that significant of a draft investment for many other teams. That's not being negative it's just a matter of fact. The 49ers did quite well with a UDFA running back while McCaffrey was out. It is understandable that some people have concerns. That being said it boils down to whether or not you believe in the player. We just have to see what happens with him and Brooks.
    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
