How do we feel about Canales

I feel Bryce and Evero stans are trying to blame Canales.

Canales has shown offensive improvement. It's always been Bryce and Evero who have held back the team. Canales shows promise, but he has to free himself from Bryce and Evero.

Any offensive improvement has been kinda minimal against a bad Raiders team.  He looks a little shaky otherwise. I'm not even sure that he's a good situational play caller. He has to start being a little more creative in my estimation. He has been calling plays, so he's not exactly new at that.

I was just getting ready to criticize him for not playing Coker, but at least he's beginning to do that.

So far his biggest value to me was he got Bryce benched so we could see something somewhat resembling NFL offensive football. For Tepper it seems like if he can't fix Bryce Young and if he isn't a play calling genius he's a bit expendable. I'd give him another year with his own QB to be fair

As much as I have opposed CRA for his past POV about Canales I do have to say any credit Canales gets for benching Bryce is nullified for the fact he hid him in preseason. He was hired in part to at least try to fix him. Not only did he not but he and Dan Morgan decided it was a great approach to coddle him with absolutely no backup plan other than Dalton and a UDFA afterthought.

Yeah he will be here next year because you have to let him try and get "his guy". But at this point I see little to no hope for next season. I fully accepted this would be a lost and possibly ugly season but I had hoped to see some development of the younger guys on the roster and so far not only is that not happening we are just getting outclassed everywhere you look.

Canales is earning himself plenty of criticism and it should get louder. Some might say it isn't fair. But he took the job.

He’s been fine. The offense has been good today and we have less than average talent outside of the offensive line.

I will be interested to see how he looks next year once we have some time to build the defense a tad more.

We have better than average talent at the offensive skill positions, we just have to put them in the best positions for success by calling better plays.

He is an offensive coach/QB guru…

I think the D can suck, we lose games we should still be able to judge him.  AT missing games shouldn’t matter at all IMO.

if all that works is Dalton, Dionte and Chubba….we should let Tepper do Tepper things IMO

I’m not sold on the guru part but I’m willing to wait and find out.

He can’t be judged based on the defense right now. The offense has looked a good bit better since he benched the midget. Last week was awful but the bengals and failcunts games it was clear we were just outmatched but kept the games about as close as we could reasonably expect.

I think he shows a lot of promise. This team stinks, straight up...but we are at least seeing signs of life, and the team doesn't appear to just be giving up. Perfect example is our drive to end the first half today...how long has it been since we've seen that? That has been a run twice, half-assed pass attempt then take it to half show for most of what I can remember. We took it down and scored 6. We are in a Detroit Lions like 3-4 years ago situation. Not saying it's going to turn out the way they did, but you have to give him the chance to succeed or fail in his vision.

    • This game should have never been on SNF. This is just bad football.   Something you put on NFL Network
    • Please don't I can't take it 🙁
    • I expected the offense to be strong enough to make Bryce dangerous to us by showing enough to start offering some people false hope - and we'd be stuck with him coming back. I was scared of that because I never had any faith in him and wanted clear cut proof so we could move forward - likely without him. Lose and take a new QB, is basically what I was rooting for, I guess.  I thought we'd be able to contain teams better by stopping the run more effectively. I thought it would take a few weeks for everything to reveal because new coach new players new system.  I didn't see the devastating injury wave taking us out by week 5. And I didn't see Brooks sitting being useless after 6 games had gone by.  At the same time I knew this wasn't a one year fix and expected more realism from fans in that regard. They had loaded up the offense and watered down the defense and I did not like that. I resented all the investment in Bryce's training wheels at the expense of team balance.   It's a tough space, I was bitching about the lack of investment in the D all season, while at the same time loving the OL. Thinking they spent too much on the guards... thinking Icky should have been moved inside, and spend that on replacing him at LOT. But overall still coming back to it was never going to be a one year fix and knowing the defense was going to be short. Not THIS short.  But the season was to be all about Young showing what he is, I expected that to be a longer process but am not unhappy that it played out quickly - if they will just leave him where he belongs which is off the field I'll consider it mission accomplished.
