That list certainly reeks of serious recency bias.

yeah they need to specify that it's the modern era. in the 50s you'd have owners fire the coaches and run things themselves not infrequently.

that said it's pretty hard to argue against urban. Every moment of his coaching tenure was hysterical. im sure its exaggerated i still laugh when I think about him asking if they could just also get kyle pitts in the draft and was completely sincere about the question.

Rhule lost to Joe Judge and had a worse overall record coaching than Both him and Patricia:

  • Rhule -.289
  • Judge - .303
  • Patricia - .314

Not to mention the 7 year contract which makes it 10x worse

LoL you all are just looking at records & fail to realize or mention in 2001 draft George Seifert drafted Dan Morgan in the 1st round & Kris Jenkins in the 2nd round & Steve Smith Sr. in the 3rd round ...just saying

we actually don't know who drafted who. the panthers had a weird FO structure 2001 between Hurney, Jack Bushofsky, Mark Richardson, and Seifert. Bushofsky retired after 2003, Seifert was fired and Richardson...well.

At the time Jenkins was considered a reach and didn't really do much during his rookie year. He could barely stay on the field. Everyone thought he was just fat, but it turned out he actually had undiagnosed sleep apnea. He got a cpap after his rookie year and then was maybe the best defender in the NFL for two years before he started blowing out his knees. Also how can you forget Panthers legend Chris Weinke who was also in that 2001 draft. Panthers were undefeated in 2001 before 9/11, just saying.

Anyway, we'll never know for sure who made what decision and how the power was distributed. Based on how things shook out over the next couple seasons, I'd suspect Hurney had more of a say than anyone else in that draft. He earned a lot of goodwill with that Super Bowl and a LOT of rope with Richardson.

    • Here’s my take. Initially Tepper trusted the wrong people which led to Rhule, Rhule led to Fitt. Terrible start.  Not sure if it was Rhule or Fitt, kept Fitt which was another massive mistake, leading to Young and Reich.  Now we have Dan (still up in the air, but I’m hopeful) and Canales (I think he’ll be here for a long time, I think we found the right guy). Tepper wants to win, if you think otherwise you are plain wrong. He has just trusted and hired the wrong people. When will he get it right? Or has he finally done it?  There are a lot of bad GMs and HCs out there. A lot of teams struggle with the same thing. It is baffling to watch all these moves across the league, and tbh,  a lot of times it feels like the casual fan would do a better job. Just look at the Giants, Jets, Browns etc. 49ers, Detroit etc. were terrible for a long time.  I’m hopeful Canales is our guy, if not it will take us a while to get there. This year is all about showing progress and improvement. If we do that, this was a successful year for me.
    • Lot of bad names being left off that list for whatever reason.
    • No I was at the North Charleston location.  Poor service is rampant down here. It's like were still in Covid. Poor food, poor service and dirty restaurants are the norm now unless you go to Chik fil a. That chicken joint is always clean, great service and fresh food.
