Yeah, it doesn't matter the scheme you are running if you simply cannot get the right players.

Its been two years now, tuttle trys his best, but hes barely 305 and theres limit to his absorbing blocks and being moved off his spot.

Simply put they MUST find or trade for legit NT if they want to keep up this 3-4 program.

Yeah, elite 3-4 nose tackles are as hard to find as elite 4-3 DEs. But there’s only one instead of two, so I guess we got that going for us lol

He was playing DE in our odd alignments

That’s probably his best fit too. DE in a 3-4 so I’d probably keep it for now. Horn (if he can be relatively healthy) and  Brown should be the defensive pieces moving forward looks like Wallace is flashing sone talent too.

4-2-5 with Stephen Belichick as DC. Doing good things at the University of Washington.

Legit, that may be the future with the way football is coached from HS through college. Try to get a 4-3 style front with solid MLB's then fill in with a mixture of speedy CB's and LB/safety style players.

I really can't take an offense to anything we do at this point.  We are ravaged by injury.  By far, the worst injury situation in the league.  We have lost a laundry list of starters, not just depth to injury.  The only other teams that are close are TB and SF.

Brown can play in any front.

I like Brown at DE. He doesn't get stuck as the big guy in the middle and takes those double teams out wide. For a 3-4 DE that should free up the passrush to do some fun things. This team has just stunk at their edge approach. Brown only had 2 sacks last year but the O has to account for him. They get one guy who could be decent in a tandem but they never have a decent 2nd option. Like WTF is going on at the other OLBer spot? They can't get backup quality play out of one of those guys in run game and any sign of life at all in the passing game?

The NT spot could use an upgrade. The problem I have with that spot is all of those guys are under 310 and I thought they were supposed to be the biggest dlinement in a 3-4? That doesn't seem right to me IDK

Let's go back to the immortal words of Mel Kiper Jr:  "They should ban the cover 2!"  Why?  It's limiting explosive passing plays.  It makes it harder for young QBs to play well because it forces everything in to condensed fields.  Agree, disagree, it doesn't matter.  The NFL won't do that (will it???).

So let's look at what real NFL defenses do?  They have a base D for the depth chart, but they have a variety of packages and looks: for short yardage, blitzing, prevent, intermediate, 2 deep, single high, man, etc...  What it comes down to in the modern NFL is you need guys who can occupy and get past the OL.  You need guys who can rush the passer from the outside in.  You need guys who can guard behind the DL until the DBs take over.  You need guys who can cover.  You need guys who can tackle.  You need good communication.

Right now, we have guys who get pushed around, guys who don't do a great job filling gaps, guys who can't get past OL, guys who don't communicate well, and guys who make bone headed decisions.  How do you scheme them into getting better at playing football?

I think Evero is trying to do too much with these guys.  There are too many new pieces on a weekly basis.  They can't play fast because their heads are spinning.  Evero is a smart, serious dude.  I like him a lot.  But this is not working.  Time to go back to the basics, and let the players play fast.  Sure, we'll continue to get beat by better players and schemes, but we can look competent, make some stops, and give some hope...

I don't think the scheme is the issue. I think that the roster situation and health is the issue.  Pick something and stay with it.  One positive of the 3-4 is that 4-3 tweeners have potential in the odd front.

We are currently no more equipped to play 4-3 than 3-4

The 3-4 works when you have a space eating DT, ie Derrick Brown. Now that he’s gone that scheme is a terrible fit for what’s left.

It's even better with a Haloti Ngata, Vince Wilfork type guy and OLBs like TJ Watt. Watt can hold the line of scrimmage and rush the passer like a 4-3 end which is what you need when they are sending the house off tackle. If a team goes true smash mouth with a pulling lineman, lead blocker, and tight end we have almost nothing to stop it. It is just easier to outfit a 4-3.
