Opinions on Ekwonu

The one thing I keep seeing over and over with him is he cannot handle a stunt and struggles to disengage. If he's locked up with an end and someone comes around to his left, they're getting to the QB. I don't know if it's a mental or technique thing, or was a problem with bryce not knowing how to set protections, or canales' system. probably a combo of everything, but he just does look like he fully understands the position. I don't know how long you wait for a guy to figure that stuff out.

Do you have some examples of this?

i mean i'd have to go back and watch. I remember it happening twice against the raiders. I didn't see the Bengals game because of Helene, and the Bears game was difficult to watch because the satellite at mudpuppies kept going out.

also mudpuppies has some fantastic wings, and 1/2 price wings is a terrible idea when you don't have running water.

Yeah, I just don't recall that specific issue. I have seen him get off balance a few times but not any struggles with handing off assignments in that scenario. I would like to see them.

Week 2 - 3Q 8:20 3rd & 6

This is constant. Young and Dalton have suffered at the end of their drops because of Ekwonu. His foot work gets crossed up on a switch and he gets bull rushed into the QBs lap. No leverage.

They've been targeting Ekwonu in pass pro every week because of this major weakness that gives up the pocket to the inside.

For Ekwonu failing to disengage to switch on a stunt in a critical situation, Week 4 - 4Q 4:35 3 &10

Happens every week. Ekwonu is definitely a targeted weakness in the opponents defensive game plan. More that are not difficult to find.

No offense but you are a bottom 5 credible poster.

Can't use week 1 or 2 to clearly grade Icky. Protecting Young is about impossible due to his playing style. That's why Icky wasn't credited for sacks last year on guys he was blocking. When a QB holds the ball that long and runs out of protection as often as Young does it's not on the blocker at that point. If you can see a 7 step drop then it's on the QB at that point for terrible technique. When you see a 7 step drop in spread then you have a guy who is trying to get himself killed.

Go look at the last 3 games and do a real evaluation with Dalton under center. He still has stuff to work on and he may never be more than just good but just good is enough to not worry about on this roster.

Ekwonu gets crossed up and beat on stunts immediately. He's bull rushed inside eliminating the pocket in under 2 seconds. Same issue for Bryce and Dalton. His failure to switch on a stunt or waist bend after 1 second with edge rushers has nothing to do with any QB.

With the different QBs it's evident it looks worse with Young because of Youngs faults. It happens less with a QB that can step up in the pocket. He still is going to get beat from time to time but that's part of being a LT. They aren't likely to find anything better anytime soon. He has plenty to work on but it's not been bad since Young was benched.
