If you can't build rome in a day, it certainly doesn't make much sense to take a RB on day 1 of that build lol.  They age like milk.

My guess would be they believed they had the offensive line they needed.

A lot of us weren't so sure.

The OL is there but the RB isn't.

But what did it ultimately matter? Chuba is #5 in the league in rushing yardage. 

If you invest so much in an OL, this is typically where you save money/resources is at RB.

The OL isn't there at the center spot. Also have to admit I'm still not absolutely certain Ickey isn't a better guard than tackle.

Agree on Hubbard though. Seems clear the joke about our best draft pick of recent years being made by Matt Rhule's wife is gonna be around for a while.

The Panthers could have just blindly auto drafted off of Mel Kiper's big board and probably done better.  That's how you know you fuged up.

Corbett was doing averageish. I would also like an upgrade there too but that unit, when healthy has been extremely effective and arguably the best unit we have had in 10-15 years.

Ikey looks a lot better this year. Not allowing as many pressures/sacks/etc and an absolute monster in the running game.

I don’t know that he ever becomes a Trent Williams type guy but if he settles into that Moton area of being a long term, dependable guy, I am fine with that too.

His path to guard is essentially closed anyway with the contracts we signed this offseason.

This is why most smart teams that don't have an immediate need at RB don't draft RB's in the 1st or 2nd round.

Guess what we didn't have an immedate need for? Especially considering our 5th leading rusher in the NFL and 4th round draft pick is still on his rookie deal.

Another fun stat is the top 4 leading rookie rushers are from the 4th round or lower.

I have harped on this since the days we signed that idiotic CMC contract, smart teams don't spend crazy money or draft capital on RB's.

The thing is nobody knew Chuba was going to perform this well this year. He looked just as terrible as everybody else save for the game against Detroit. We all remember him dropping passes and leaving yards on the field. What I meant more so by the Rome built in a day comment was if we are going to be sorry for the next few years, why did it matter if you got a home run at RB in the second or a center? Neither would've been slated to play a lot early as Corbett was the plan at center. You can't get everything in one draft. Some positions have to wait. And it worked out fine until Corbett got hurt. There is a good center in every draft just like RB and we will have high picks for the foreseeable future. So get a center this year or next. Then you have Brooks and your center for the future. I get it, it wasn't the best decision, but let's be about the forward motion. And we can only get on here and have certainty it wasn't the best move because we see how well the kid in Pittsburgh is playing, Corbett is hurt, and Brooks still isn't close to playing.

I might buy that as a theory if Chuba didn't almost rush for almost 1000 yards behind an absolute dumpster fire line last season.

Not to mention the fuging resources already tied up in that bum Miles Sanders.

There is really zero excuse for drafting Brooks minus him having a HOF career.

He was fine.  His PFF grade backs it up as well.

That "when healthy" phrase is what hurts Corbett.

(I might be in the minority but I find myself wishing we had kept Bozeman at that spot)

Don't know if Ickey Is ever going to turn into that franchise left tackle we want him to be. If guard isn't an option you might try him at right tackle, or if one of our current guards can play that spot then move Ickey to right guard.

I've pondered Hunt as a left tackle but I don't know that he's ever played that spot and it's no guarantee he'd be just as good. He's got the build for it, but that doesn't really ensure anything.

Yeah Chuba was literally one of the only bright spots on the whole team last season, IDK where this "terrible" is coming from outside his first season or two.

Hs is one of the extremely few guys we have EVER had actually develop.
