Anybody else disgusted with Richardson?

My point exactly, he is focused on after the lockout which is 2 years from now. So you are ok with not focusing on each year, regardless of CBA? So we have a bad year next year, a lockout the next year, and then we can be good again, with some of our players like Steve Smith 2 years older.

In the immortal words of Herm Edwards ..................."you play to win, you play to win the game." Every year, not just after the lockout.

your simply talking about 1 freaking year.....the 2010 season where JR is doing some work to set them up better in the long run. Carolina will play to win the game.....so did the Bucs last year. The tanking talk is lame. Not comparing us the the 2009 Bucs....but teams make moves certain years....and don't treat every year like they are one player away from winning the Superbowl.

I am not 2 months late. If you read the post you would see I said I had been trying to reserve judgement until we saw how things played out.

How exactly does a week prior to the draft, prior to June cuts and well before camp roster purges equate to "played out"?

The current roster isn't even close to the final roster.

JR doesn't want to pay a head coach during the lockout.

Specially the 10 million to Cowher ;)

Exactly. As I have been saying, it is all about the money. My next question is why are the owners so hell bent on doing everything as if the lockout is a done deal. It is almost like they are bound and determined to make it happen. If not they could surely negotiate a contract with Fox with a lockout contingency. They have supposedly extended Hurney which likely extends through the lockout.

No, I'm not. He didn't get to where he is by being a fool.

exactly he is where he is for a reason.

yes, we may suck next year however, he is doing what is best for the NFL and by extension what is best for our team. the man is a visionary. I have complete faith in him.

they will still need a GM during the lockout.

the draft and other day to day operations are gonna continue... just not the practicing and playing football part.

So high price free agents is the way to go?

Please see: Washington Redskins

It is far more risky to me to give someone a big pay day and hope that they are still motivated to be great. And I am not the one doing the actual paying.

Then to draft someone who is still young and hungry.

You're missing the point here. I'm going to leave it alone after this. You made a hasty post without much thought. Instead of admitting it, your making a whole different point now. Nobody is talking about the merits of FA vs. the draft. All I was saying is the draft is anyting but a given, countering your post that it isn't a crap shoot and teams that don't have huge success suck at drafting when it is proven that more players wash out in this league than make it. It is little indication of drafting ability, rather than playing low odds.

I see what you are saying, but the problem with that is that Fox probably doesn't want to be under a contract like that. They probably have a mutual understanding that if Fox can win this season, maybe they will talk a lucrative extention, but if not then he can be free to go where he pleases after this season.

However, if Foz were only gonna make 1-3 million dollars this season I believe he would have already opted out, but 6 million guaranteed is not a bad gig. Especially if the job he wants isn't open quite yet.

Are y'all crazy? Our benchful of potential Super Bowl MVPs are so good, Goodell is thinking of making us play split squad games, like baseball, to give the other teams a chance. And those ace "castoffs" we pick up from other teams? If only they gave out TWO Lombardi's this season....

Of course its not a given, but its not a crapshoot either.

Thats like saying someone is better at the lottery than others.

Players wash out for a million different reasons, but there is a reason why the Patriots or the Colts or the Eagles can do well with their draft every year.

Its not a crap shoot if someone is better at it then others.

so where is ol' hermie now?

this year is far from a wash, contrary to your overreaction. please enlighten us as to why we will be monumentally worse this year than last...

the schedule is a good bit easier. we have an upgrade at QB which makes all the receiving options better plus will help an already fantastic run game. not to forget the still incredible oline. offense will be in good shape and we still will be adding a WR or two through the draft and FA. to think that we aren't going to be adding someone is just not thinking right. smith carries a lot of weight on the team and if he wants another solid WR brought in they are going to try to find one.

the defense still has a very good secondary and one of the best LB duos in the league. losing diggs was NOT all that big of a deal. he was seeing the field less and less and was getting hurt more. it was only a matter of time before he was replaced anyway and we have likely the best LB in penn state history taking his place (yes, connor). we have some really good prospects at DE and adding another quality end will make the DE rotation pretty respectable. at DT we still need some help but we have at least three players with a good bit of potential and a whole offseason to address that concern.

STs have gotten a boost with wallace, wright, and francisco. we will have another KOS that will probably do just as well as lloyd did.

seriously...this team isn't in bad shape for next year and it is in a much better position to grow going forward with or without a lockout and with or without fox.

if we have a bad season next year then we get a new coach getting a young roster with a lot of room for growth.

i just don't see any reason to be so negative.
