Crazy thought on next QB

Prob will get poo’d for this but trying to think outside the box and what type of QB works this offense.

Canales has done really well with highly drafted QBs that had all the physical tools but didn’t pan out at their first stop. The Giants are done with Jones after this year, think they can get out of his 4 year contract and save $20M by cutting him. Our offensive line and weapons are better than the Giants and he hasn’t looked awful this year in that environment. Giants have the worst OL in the league. Outside of the Vikings game (who I think is the best D in the league this year) he has looked pretty decent with the awful OL and lack of weapons.

He can make every throw look easy, runs like a deer if he gets a lane, and has shown some crazy flashes, just hasn’t been consistent and can lack accuracy which I feel is augmented by the awful line. Wonder if that’s the kind of guy Canales would go for and want. Could also be a nice stop gap for 2 years if we draft a project QB this year. He got his one big payday, gotta imagine we could get him on a similar to what Vikings did with Darnold at $10M per. Something like 2 years $25M.

That's probably true. But to give them another single thing was too much to stomach, for me. I'd have looked elsewhere just for that reason.

Besides, this year was Bryce or die, obviously. Every action and inaction, revolved around that. (which precluded rostering any perceived threat to the throne).

They could have at least picked up Justin Fields for nothing and he would have probably balled out today against the Bears

No one will ever convince me that Morgan and Canales looked at Bryce's tape last year and said nyah, we don't need to bring in legit QB competition because Young is THE guy. We didn't pursue Fields because Tepper didn't want to admit he could be wrong.

That's not a crazy thought, it's just a bad one, Jones is a replacement level starter in this league, he's never going to be a guy you contend with, not worth going that route again.

My crazy thought would be to draft T-Mac in the 1st to give us a stud outside WR and then call up the Lions and trade for Hooker.

They took him before Goff really showed he's their QB for the forceable future and I could see them being open to trading Hooker.

I was intrigued with him before we made the trade up to #1 and he's probably gotten some great coaching from Ben Johnson as well, I'd be very interested in trading for him to start him all year.  It either works out and we have our new starting QB moving forward or it blows up in our faces and we end up with a Top 5 pick in a QB loaded draft.

I'm thinking Canales is getting more credit than he deserves for being a "qb whisper". I'm call bs on that until it's proven otherwise. Right now he's on track to be fired in his first season.

They might as well just buy a nice rental house for the next HQ. Not sure how that will work out though not being able to fulfill that 1 year lease.

Tepper can't fire Canales after this year, he has no choice but to give him at least 2 full seasons after firing coaches mid season each of the last 2.

If he fires Canales after 1 year, we won't get any qualified HC candidate interest in the job.  Honestly, anyone with legitimate current HC aspirations wouldn't be interested after that.

It's yet another reason I'm already willing to punt on next season and just play for the #1 pick.  Then you bring in a new HC with the #1 pick for a QB to help bring in someone good and you let them do whatever they want to do with the pick and roster, what we should have done many times over the years.

Yeah no way we fire Canales after 1 yr.

I called the Frank firing because it was obvious. Tepper won't be able to get any of the top guys if he fires another HC back to back after 1 season.

Canales is safe for at least 2 years you can take that to the bank!

I don't think we have a say in it.  Tepper is going to Tepper. He will not sit through a 1-16 season without firing someone. You can take that to the bank.

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
