Dalton Honeymoon Over

Recommended Posts

People got way to excited about his win. The talk of years more of his service was telling. Dalton is also one of those 'we need an upgrade of talent' too. Could it be worse? Yes. But he was a backup in the end of his career so asking him to shoulder wins week in and out is just a bad plan. Lean on the run game, let him cook around that and try to get Evero to call a better game on the other side with the RBs carrying the clock.

Welp, that was a fun 3 weeks. We'll always have the Raiders game and the high that ensued afterwards. Time to hear the stans all call for Bryce to be back next week.

Kinda hard when receivers cant catch or break a tackle 1x1.  Other teams’ receivers  do, just not Panthers receivers

they have zero heart or ability to step up and make a play

adam theilein wouldve been a difference  maker

I have no qualms with Dalton nor rolling with him beyond this year. He was never going to be a miracle worker. Yesterday he needed a miracle to be able to overcome the horrible defense.

He didn't play horrible at all.

Agree.  He is who he is.  He’ll have good games and bad games but he’s a veteran backup QB.

The many that he played last year when he also looked like crap. In 3 games, Dalton has had more games where he played good or good enough (2) than Bryce has had in 18 games (1). And the Saints are only top 10 because they played us with Bryce, Philly kept fugin around instead of doing anything halfway intelligent, and Dallas got down like 30 points in the 1st half and had to be one dimensional and turn down FGs - Saints are more middle of the pack on defense. The Chargers have also played some awful offenses this year, with the exception of KC. Not sure how great they are on defense.

And there are much worse ideas than signing Dalton to a 2-3 year deal as a bridge QB until our next 1 is drafted/ready. Like, for example, thinking Bryce is the long-term answer... Which is what you are making it sound like you want.

And people thought Dalton was again, good enough. Good enough to be able to figure out if any of our skill position players are actually good. With Bryce, we would never know if the likes of Mingo, Legette, etc. are actually worthwhile or not because the dude can't throw it more than 5 yards down field.

So now we are bringing up last season when the roster was god awful? Lol

You do know the saints D held the Falcons offense to 4 FG right? They didn’t score a single offensive TD last week. And the chargers are only in games cause their D is holding team teams to low scores.

I agreed with benching Bryce, but thinking Dalton is anything other than a stop gap is ludicrous. He barely had 50 yards at halftime. And no we shouldn’t sign him to anything.

I also think Bryce should get another shot against a terrible D (like Dalton has played) later on in the season. The fact is this team invested a ton into Bryce and they need to throw him out there to at least build his confidence back. Playing Dalton won’t lead us anywhere and this offense looks just as bad

Throwing him out there is not how to build confidence. Sitting him until he is ready is. He needs at least probably a season or two on the pine to regain anything.

And Bryce has barely eclipsed 50 yards total in both of the games he played...

And I don't know how many times it can be said that nobody here thought that Dalton was going to become an elite QB all of a sudden. We just knew he was capable of at least being a serviceable QB, something Bryce will never be. Pretty much everyone I have seen post on this forum says to go ahead and sign Dalton to a 2-3 year contract so that way we can build the rest of the team up and then get our QB. Not sure why you keep saying that everyone here thinks Dalton is going to become Mahomes-esque, which is saying a lot because I feel like I usually get dumber when I read threads on this forum

Here’s where I go off the reservation. Don’t read if you can only endure a post that is under 2 paragraphs.

Play calling was really really weird, and it set the tone. They had no idea how to handle stunts. Passing on first down got us behind the sticks. Stunts on second/third down and the rest is history. Thielen is Mr first down and for the second week in a row, it shows how badly missed that is.

Thielen moves the chains. Chuba moves the chains. Not one single screen to Chuba. They completely abandoned the run, when it was working very well. Losing XL was the final piece. Sanders is a complete bum who checked out once he got paid.

I will say it again and again and again, Thielen is criminally under appreciated here, but very respected by defenses. Everyone is obsessed with the home run guys, but a team has to have a first down guy. Usually it’s a big TE with good hands. We don’t have that guy.  Thielen is our first down guy. He’s our check down guy who puts us in 2nd and 2. He’s our 3rd and 12 outlet. Thielen and Chuba keep us ahead of the chains. One is injured and the other was given up on. Besides those 2, we have a WR who reportedly has an attitude problem, a rookie with potential and then it’s a sea of bums and ‘who the hell is thats.’

People are really quick to dump on Andy. Long knives are out. Look, he’s been the only thing to give a glimpse of hope since Wilks. I actually still want to watch this Sunday.

So we dump Andy at the end of the season… Ok, for what then? For whom? Another stupid project? Andy’s not a world beater but he knows how to read a defense and complete a pass. He is not a project. Who would we bring in that could come close to being plug and play, that would actually WANT to be here with T as the owner.

This team isn’t even ready to draft a QB yet. He’d get killed. The receivers would grow stale and unmotivated and we’d go nowhere. Hey look another injury to a key position we have 0 depth in because we traded away more draft capital and/or murdered our cap on an oft injured vet has been.  Wash, rinse, repeat. Same old Panthers. Desperate for a savior.

This build has to be done the right way. Slow and boring. Get a hard hitting identity back again, as was advertised. Get thumpers. Trench warriors. Keep a field general around who can keep an offense alive and get a first down every once in a while. Give people a reason to want to sign contract #2 with us. Unless we can all of a sudden have a legion of boom-esque draft, our version of the 3-4 will continue to be humiliating.

Where’s the Tylenol?!

So your saying when Bryce played a top flight defense he played like crap, just like Andy….

I never said Mahomes or even elite, the fact is Dalton is journeyman QB and should be treated a such, he shouldn’t be thought as next year starter or this years full time starter. NFL coaches don’t have the leeway to waste a year with Dalton as the starter. What we saw Sunday was par for the course of Andy and this offense for the entire season.

No he didnt, just ran into a real top 10 D. bears staff knew dave and had not only a great game plan but each play call was good too. The defense just has no depth to fill in all the injuries. Now the O will be missing half their starters as well.

Bears just had more talents, thanks to a trade....

We only have two capable guys of both getting open and catching the ball regularly, that's Johnson and AT. Hopefully Coker can become a third.

I still wish to see Dalton the next 3 weeks. If we leave Denver 1-7 then sure play Bryce and trade one of Dionte/Theilen

Denver had the best defense in the league. Chicago is right there. This loss was on Canales and injuries not dalton
