Just because you don't want to lose doesn't mean you know how to win. Tepper has no idea what he's doing and it's showed. We've been a revolving door at QB trying to find lightning in a bottle. We've got guys making major decisions getting it wrong more times than a freaking fan message board. There's no real plan in building a team. We're throwing poo at the wall to see what sticks, but the only thing we're left with is gobs of poo everywhere.

You're absolutely right with what you are saying, but think about this. Revolving door at QB. How is Sam Darnold doing right now? How is Baker Mayfield doing right now? Both playing at an all pro, almost MVP caliber right now. Why did it not work here? I totally get that Tepper may not know how to win, but in the end, he's just the money guy. Talking about throwing things at walls and seeing if it sticks, I feel you brother. But why is it that nothing seems to stick? Look at this year, just when it seemed we had a glimer of hope our anchor on defense Brown, season ending injury. Do you think he would have made a difference in the last two games? And it's not just that... for some reason we just cannot get those diamond in the rough players in the draft that end up being those "Dogs" that Morgan speaks about. Players have to emerge, and YES we need better decision making. But unfortunately in the NFL, those decisions are like a coin flip. And it seems the Panthers are in an era where it's just not landing our way. Love him or hate him (mostly hate here, I get it), Tepper WANTS to win. He is hemorraging money with this team right now and the business man in him does not want to lose money. I get why everyone hates him, but even he needs a little luck when it comes to the offseason and trying to improve the team. This kind of thing is not easy to turn around. Panthers are not the only team. I mean, the Jets just fired Robert Saleh who I thought was a good coach 5 weeks in. I feel your pain, trust me, been here a long time with this team, all the ups and downs. I do think we have the right coaches and GM right now... we just NEED some damn luck at the QB position, and what would help with that is playmakers at WR/TE/RB! We have a top 10 Offensive line. But, we are decimated with injuries on defense. Just BAD LUCK... snake eyes. It wll all come together eventually, it has to... right? 🙂

I know it’s different but Frankie Luvuu is straight dominating for the Commanders.

Panthers just can’t have good things.

Honestly, its why Im starting to think we need to extend Diontae Johnson.  We cant just keep letting the players that we have that have proven talent just walk away, we dont need rentals anymore, we need pieces, and he's showing that he has what it takes to be an actual #1 reciever, as we've learned, those dont grow on trees.

Just because you want something doesn't mean you actually know how to get it. You say he's just the money guy but by his own admission he's been heavily involved in decision making. He's a hedge fund manager, not a 30 NFL Exec.

Darnold and Baker are doing better because they have coaches who are maximizing strengths and minimizing weaknesses while helping them grow and mature as men and football players.

The Panthers hired a coach more concerned with implementing OOU than winning. He hired a GM in Fitts that made me as a huddle GM look like an NFL mastermind. Then he hired an "outside" firm to find the most qualified GM and it happens to be Fitts cohort in failure.

Injuries happen to every team, but having depth from well scouted drafts is key to success.

Every decision this team has made has been not only wrong, but called by this MB with more frequent success than the professionals.

Has a team ever had the #1 overall pick so many times in this short period of time lol

between 2008 and 2010, the Rams went 2, 2, 1. They took Chris Long, Jason Smith, and Sam Bradford. Between 2014 and 2016 they went 2, 10, 1 and took Greg Robinson (ugh), Todd Gurley and Jared Goff.

between 92 and 94, colts went 1, 16, 2 and took Steve Emtman (oof), Sean Dawkins and then some guy named Faulk. They also had the 5th overall pick in 1994 and took Trev Alberts.

Bucs had it back to back in 86 and 87. They drafted Bo Jackson and Panthers legend Vinny Testaverde. Of course Bo refused to play for them because they ruined his college eligibility by flying him on a plane and reporting him to the NCAA. 80s bucs were wild.

between 2003 and 2010 the lions went 2, 7, 10, 9, 2, 17, 1, 2. They took Charles Rogers (weed), Roy Williams (WR), Mike Williams (fat), Ernie Sims (fine), Calvin Johnson, Gosder Cherilus, Matthew Stafford, Ndamukong Suh.

So in the modern era, just briefly looking at it the only team that did it back to back was Tampa Bay and one of the players didn't even play for them. Not sure I count the Panthers in 2022 since they traded up for it, but they definitely earned the first overall pick in 2023 and are staring right at it again in 2024.

Fitt made way too many devastating decisions in the draft and FA during his time here. We can't recover from those mistakes anytime soon. We're basically building from scratch. We need everything outside of a couple of positions.

Luvu wouldn't be doing much of anything in this defense. Our defense literally doesn't know how to line up or what play is being called. They are guessing and completely confused. They signal to one another and many players don't know what is being signaled. They're totally lost, and Luvu wouldn't fix that or change the locker room. Yes I'd like to have Luvu, but we'd have had our asses handed to us regardless.

Our needs are devastating to contemplate. Despite trading the farm we still may need a QB. If that wasn't bad enough, we still need a #1 WR. Think that's bad? We need an elite pass rushing OLB. And those are just the critical expensive needs that take multiple seasons and luck to acquire.

We may be the worst team in the NFL, and we clearly have the worst defense in Panthers history after the key injuries.

The ship is completely sunk and Fitt is the one who hit the iceberg. Switching from Young to Andy is like rearranging chairs on the titanic. Yes Andy is better, but outside of the Giants game we're not winning another game imo. How could we when the team is gutted?

C.J Stroud looked like an awesome prospect at the time. Young looked physically limited to say the least. Even so, we had a pile of mistakes by Fitt already weighing the team down before the Young debacle.

D.J going off against us was just salt in the wound Fitt left on this franchise. You'd think our defensive "coordinator" would put a plan in place to have D.J blanketed in coverage because everyone:

Angry Gary Oldman GIF

knew full well that this was D.J's big moment to show us up. You knew the Bears would give him special attention in that game. You knew it. I knew it. We knew what was coming. The Bears and Panthers knew the optics and the personal score to settle. Yet what did our "coordinator" do? You saw the results.

I hate these players. I hate these coaches. I hate our owner and his idiotic "Steph Curry" speech about Young. If I could clear out everyone and completely start over I'd snap my fingers and make it happen. This team is aaaasssssssssss and the coaches appear clueless. No identity. Confusion. Slow. Weak. Can't tackle. Bad pursuit angles. Busted coverage. You name it. It's over. And it's not back on next season. It's over next season as well. We're YEARS away from making any kind of noise. At the time I was screaming for Fitt to take the 1st round picks. There were so many shocking mistakes that we could only have landed here, and nowhere else. Are there reminders all over the place. Yes. Would you need a lobotomy to forget about all of Fitt's mistakes. Also yes.

Holy S*** they just showed Frankie getting the game ball in the locker room and he had the place LIT.

Reminds me of TD or Ray Lewis.

We can’t keep culture guys like that?

Would you want to stay after drafting Young #1 knowing we stuck with him for a few yrs? The Panthers got way worse after picking young #1 best believe the players in the locker room can tell if a guy got it or not..

Washington winning games the Panthers not so much.

The Browns had back to back 1st overall picks in 2017 and 2018. They took Myles Garrett number one, then the following year took Baker Mayfield number one. Most hilarious aspect of this is that they also had the #4 pick in 2018 (ended up becoming Denzel Ward) which was the first rounder that the Texans gave them to move up and pick Deshaun Watson in 2017. 5 years later the Browns give up three first rounders, a third and two fourths to bring him to Cleveland after all the allegations.

Here’s my take. Initially Tepper trusted the wrong people which led to Rhule, Rhule led to Fitt. Terrible start.

Not sure if it was Rhule or Fitt, kept Fitt which was another massive mistake, leading to Young and Reich.

Now we have Dan (still up in the air, but I’m hopeful) and Canales (I think he’ll be here for a long time, I think we found the right guy).

Tepper wants to win, if you think otherwise you are plain wrong. He has just trusted and hired the wrong people. When will he get it right? Or has he finally done it?

There are a lot of bad GMs and HCs out there. A lot of teams struggle with the same thing. It is baffling to watch all these moves across the league, and tbh,  a lot of times it feels like the casual fan would do a better job. Just look at the Giants, Jets, Browns etc. 49ers, Detroit etc. were terrible for a long time.

I’m hopeful Canales is our guy, if not it will take us a while to get there. This year is all about showing progress and improvement. If we do that, this was a successful year for me.

It wasn't even just DJ though unfortunately. The Bears did whatever they wanted all around.

I completely agree with you about our approach to that matchup though. That game should have been circled and put up in the locker room for everyone to see as one we absolutely need to show up big for or at the very least give them a hard fought effort even if we lost. Instead we looked like we could barely be bothered and got smoked by a franchise that has been poorly run for what seems like forever. Just unforgiveable to do that to an already beaten down fanbase. Everyone from the front office to the coaching staff to the roster should be on notice for that showing against the Bears.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
