As fans have we unanimously concluded that Bryce Young IS THE PROBLEM

Our OL was crap as well last year. Both can be true. Iky let up a pressure on Sunday that caused an interception and a Cincy TD. Doesn’t mean Dalton caused the OL failure.

People overrated the OL last year. Injuries and Iky’s regression were obvious. Do you not recall how bad they looked in preseason? Iky was getting beat one on one all the time and Bryce barely played in the preseason last year. Bryce sucked but the 2023 OL did as well and we saw the start of that in preseason, especially with the injuries. We wouldn’t have spent $150M on two guards if that OL was good.

You seem to be completely ignoring the fact that teams were absolutely loading the box all of last season because Bryce couldn't throw more than 10 yards downfield.  When we were at least somewhat of a threat to actually throw the ball we were able to establish the run which sets the pace and tone for the whole o-line.

1 win

1 loss

both inspiring football! Bryce Young by all accounts is a good person, great family structure, well mannered. He's the type of guy you dream takes your daughter to prom and even proposes to one day

But what he ISN'T is an NFL caliber QB. Andy Medicare Dalton threw nearly every pass on the pass tree yesterday, he has an arm, he can sling it, he can look over an offensive line

Young has a noodle for an arm, he can't see over the line and watching him yesterday on the sideline he's literally the shortest person on that sideline including team personnel

Young "MAY" do well in a dink/dunk offense, something like 49ers / Dolphins where he has speedy guys who can do all the work. What Young will never be able to do is stand in a collapsing pocket and deliver a 20 yard laser to a receiver middle of the field, it's just physically impossible

After the Dolphins get blasted tonight, their GM will sheepishly call Morgan and offer a trade, accept it. You can still get a 2nd round pick for him, cut the losses and move on

*sigh*

One thing that I couldn't get out of my head is that even when he had a clean pocket, he was still bad. He may have been "Carred" by then though.

At the end of the day, It's the big boy leagues, and not having a clean pocket and college-open receivers on one of the top teams in the NCAA obviously has been a great culture shock to him. I just don't believe he can cut it not being able to see over the line. If he proves me wrong, more power to him. If he doesn't, which is what I fully expect, he's not the first bust; we just have to take the loss and move on.

Carr just like Young was a victim of his ability and skill. Carr had a 7 step drop and even then in the NFL the 5 step was rarer. Carr accounted for lots of those rookie sacks while his line played poorly. To be Carr'ed is just to be the main problem anyways. The take that the oline ruined him was always wrong. He ruined himself by not adapting to the NFL and kept his school level stuff that does not work in the NFL. It took him years to clean his technique up but he just wasn't very good anyways. He hit over 3500 yards and 60% completion in his 3rd year but the TD to INT ration was almost 1 to 1. David Carr just stunk and always did, those rookie hits were not the cause of that even if he had a brutal rookie year. He wouldn't have looked good in a clean pocket either because he was never a good QB at this level.

Completely agree on the second part. He has no one thing that is NFL level so it's hard to imagine he will have any success at this level. They spent a lot on protecting him and it was an interception and not a hit that broke him this season. Eventually he will go somewhere else and do the same thing Carr did which is prove he should never have been the #1 in any draft.

The real problems were the decision to mortgage so much in the first place just to draft a QB, apparent errors in player evaluation, a (then) new coaching staff at odds with one another, inadequate protection and weapons for such an important investment and a meddling owner who - at one point - was willing to mortgage even more for Deshaun Watson of all people.

So basically, I can't have the same vitriol against BY as others because ultimately, the entire process was not conducive to success for everyone involved. Also, changing the player isn't as difficult as the process to get the next one and that should be the main concern. Otherwise, enter next college QB name to bash around here.

Don’t remember preseason 2023 at all? There were tons of threads on how bad the OL looked. Iky was getting killed in one on one situations. Not blitzes, just man on man, this one guy is who you have to block. Hendrickson causing the interception of Dalton being an example of how Iky was losing one on one all the time in 2023.

You are completely ignoring the fact that our entire interior OL wasn’t there in 2023 and Iky was playing awful. Maybe you don’t remember this but our 2023 OL was terrible. It didn’t help that Young sucked as well but they were bad well before we knew Young sucked.

Him being bad last year isnt the problem. You can't argue last years offense was as good as this years offense. It wasn't. The regression this year from last year is what made this situation so bad. But Yes there isn't a doubt that currently Bryce isn't good enough or "ready" for the NFL. Looks like it's going to take some time or multiple seasons of him sitting and learning before he's ready and even then its no guarantee. As far as his status on this team in the future its anyones guess. I'm definitely all for cutting bait and moving on BUT considering what all we gave up to pick him it wouldn't surprise me if he was given another offseason to get it together.

I'm ok with this as long as we bring on some legit competition.  A younger player with some upside to get behind a bridge QB plus Bryce.  We need a Plan B and C because the odds are stacked against him right now.

Absolutely. Can't go into next offseason with Bryce, Dalton, and Plummer again. Need to get 1-2 additional prospects, hopefully a highish draft pick to compete with those guys.

Serious?

You honestly can’t see the difference between Mayfield’s arm and Young’s?

Also 6’1” 209lbs is a big difference from what Young is

Serious as a heart attack. 6'1" 209lbs vs. 5'10" 205lbs. We're talking a five pound difference here.

Also, from Baker's NFL.com scouting report...

Quote

Weaknesses
Falls short of size marks for traditional early-round quarterback. Short with drop-down release makes him more susceptible to batted passes. Benefited from spread scheme that created huge passing windows to throw to. Will see increased importance on post-snap reads. Needs to improve full-field scanning. Can be thrown off rhythm by delayed blitz packages and disguised coverages. Footwork is erratic. Creeps up in pocket towards pressure. Ball placement wanes when he tries to gun it. Deep balls hang on him. Can't afford any delay in deep release to beat safety over the top. Needs to eliminate his back foot throws. Desire to make plays will lead to unnecessary sacks. Has to prove he can reign in and control on-field edge and cockiness.

It's completely okay to not like the kid and have your opinion of him. It's beyond dishonest though to sit here and pretend that 3" and 5lbs are the only thing separating Bryce from being an NFL-caliber QB in a year or two. He's been bad, yea, but again, we're seeing guys this year take off that have been written off for a looong time (and were Panthers recently!).

    • We really haven’t seen him in the playoffs. In the 2-3 games he has played he looked good. But those sample sizes are so small. It’s Koochies goal now. Let’s rally behind him.
    • lol the weather man? I think he had some substance abuse issues going on but might be doing better.
