Been dealing with all sorts of craziness. I'm from Boone and still work in the area on a daily basis. My dad and his wife and my sister and her husband all live up there as well as half of my employees.

One of my employees was living in an RV that was parked to the left of this tree. He escaped on a 4-wheeler with a pack of cigarettes, bottle of liquor (lol) and a change of clothes.

The RV would basically be straight ahead from this view, we found it and that truck contrainer in the distance lodged up against the 421/Bamboo bridge a mile down river.

From what our group leader said today it doesnt feel like anyone is in charge or at least taking the reigns.  We may just hit the road on Wed and see what happens once we get up there to 40.  I think telling huge groups of people that have supplies to stay home and not come is counter productive.  Maybe I am not seeing it clearly

They're having to balance people's desire to help with inspecting the roads/bridges, repairing them, cleaning them, and getting work crews deployed as well as first responders. This is going to be a long term problem. There will be plenty of time to help after the first responders have done their thing and the road and power crews start making the roads safer to travel on.

I view from higher. The RV used to be in front of that Solar Panel array that you can see in front of the right side of the roof line. The New River river bed is past the last line of trees. Normally this is almost a 1/4 mile from the river and at least 40 feet above the water line.

How deep is the New River usually?

The majority of the flood waters around here have receded to like once a decade level flooding. It's full on into cleanup and recovery mode here. Morganton is fortunate in that the downtown area is on a hill. If it ever floods Noah is gonna get cruising around in the ark again. It's the surrounding outskirts down in the river and creek bottoms that got wrecked.

I asked to get a better idea of how it should be vs what you're showing. I knew the river was shallow, but wasn't sure it was that shallow usually.

I'm trying to see if I have a picture that would give you a good perspective. I'll take one tomorrow when I'm up there because I can't find one. But normally you wouldn't even be able to see the river from those picture locations. That building is actually on small two-tiered hill, and a large field in front. The original river bed is like 400 yards away minimum and recessed about 15 feet down into the bed itself. That high water mark is at least 40 feet if not more, above the normal river level.
