I’m in GSO. gonna load up on stuff like socks and blankets etc and bring it back tomorrow. Gonna be in the thirties next week.

if anyone knows any aid groups that need specific things, especially medical, please dm me and let me know.

One of the specific things they were mentioning was Benadryl and epi pens. It makes sense. The yellow jackets were PISSED. I thought it was just around my house at first but then everywhere I went there were pissed off yellow jackets everywhere. They've settled down around my house so not sure it's still a big need or not but it was.

I've been keeping honeybees for about 30 years- after Floyd dropped about 30 inches on us in 99, several of my hives were attacked and robbed out by yellow jackets.  Even the nasties have to eat and they'd been run out of their holes/nests and food stores.

During the event, Dolly announced she was personally donating $1 million to the Mountain Ways Foundation to assist flood victims. Additionally, her businesses like Dollywood Parks & Resorts, Dolly Parton’s Stampede and Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show also matched her donation and gave another $1 million.

Quote

“I look around think, these are my mountains, these are my valleys, these are my rivers flowing like a stream. These are my people,” Parton said. “These mountains-colored rainbows, these are my people and this is my home.”

I believe it. They've been mad as hell.

What are they needing? I could go tomorrow

The Guard is there hauling tons on tons of dirt.  There is the church off to the left that is digging out of a landslide. Outside of that, not sure what can be done. These boulders I saw weigh way more than us combined.

Jesus lord.  That’s what we saw earlier in the week.

Yeah, it's beyond bad. Can't imagine what it's like in person. The way some of the roads look, there's no way to repair them. It's like shear drops for long stretches.

I didn't take pics on Old Fort yesterday out of respect but a lot of homes were just gone. Others washed a hundred yards or more downstream. All badly flooded. There were probably 5-6 vehicles piled up against the bridge. They were so mangled and partially buried that it was hard to tell exactly how many there were. Old Fort is the worst that I've personally seen so far.

We're (Blowing Rock) focusing on Linville/Newland now and asking for donations of blankets, coats, sleeping bags, and camping gear as its about to get cold. I've been cooking daily for the lineman and town workers. They've been working 7am-7pm every day since the storm, brutal. Finally got power back at our house last night

    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
