Panthers future plan at QB. IMHO

My plan is simple

We likely still end up with a top 3 pick this year (schedule gets tough from here on out outside of a few games)

Trade down to a QB needy team. Pick up an extra second this year and first next year.

Draft the best edge at like pick 7-9, James Pierce is my current choice but that's subject to change. With our two second round picks pick the best NT, CB or double dip at edge

Next year 2026. Draft Nico high. Draft best WR with extra first round pick.

Profit.

What schedule are you looking at? With Dalton at QB the only one of these that may not be winnable is NO....

0-2 Bengals next

Of we get 75% of what we did today we could easily go 4-2 over the next six.

NO at home is absolutely winnable. They were terrible today and divisional games are always unpredictable no matter how the first meeting goes and no matter how good/bad each team is.

Dude Dalton has 15 seasons of film, look what Canales scheme did for Baker and Smith....

Sure you probably won't get this production every week but he's not gonna just fall off.

I am more concerned about the defense now that the offense has shown a spark.

Also I would trade Bryce Young tomorrow to the Dolphins. They will never be more desperate than they are currently and his stock is only going to go down the longer we wait.

This should be like last Sunday/Monday shift. Announce it in the presser and find a #2. Rip the bandaid off and let the crowd catch up.

How about we let Canales try and develop Bryce.  Four other teams inquired about trading for Bryce.  Canales flat out refused.  Jonathan Jones has reported that no one is out on Bryce and they still believe he can be our franchise QB.  Let's give our new coach and QB whisper more than a preseason and 2 games to develop Bryce.

that would be a dream I'm just still hyper pessimistic and nervous given how much we've struggled for the last season plus

I think folks need to bump their breaks.

teams will get film on Dalton and what Canales is doing with him.  There were lots of free rushers today and it thankfully didn’t hurt us.  Crosby was hurt coming in.

this isn’t the norm of what the Dalton era will look like.  We need to see that and then decide

This. Dalton is a massive improvement over Bryce simply being a competent legit NFL QB. But folks probably need to chill proclaiming a 37 year old journeyman as some type of multi-year answer.

Canales can't develop or make up for Bryces lack of physical tools and talent.

What Canales needs is someone raw, with talent (think AR). Bryce just ain't it.

    • He seems to be a well-liked, humble locker-room presence. If he's not a problem, what's the need to evict immediately? Why not let him develop under Canales without the pressure of being the figurehead. He was benched because he wasn't performing baseline NFL QB tasks. Pre-snap he was seeing ghosts and post-snap not even bothering with progressions. Even when "creating" outside the pocket, he failed to execute baseline NFL throws. The kid looked rattled. It's a combination of the actual hits, the media hits and his own personal frustration with failure. That said, the narrative  that he doesn't have the physical talent to play in the NFL is incomplete. Yes, he lacks physical talent when compared to the elite of the elite, but his size and arm strength are not reasons he can never be successful in the NFL. They just can't bail him out. The problem has been the lack of decisiveness. That's why you see him drifting backwards on his tip toes, constantly re-setting his feet rather than taking a conventional drop. You're never gonna get the velocity when constantly throwing off your back foot. The  mediocrity of his physical talent only compounds the issue. We gain very little by getting rid of him, especially in comparison to what we paid. His value will never be lower. Maybe some time out of the spotlight will help upgrade the Pentium Pro to at least a Sky Lake. Matt Cassell went for a 34th overall pick. Sam Darnold just threw 4 touchdowns in Minny for a 3-0 team. Hell, the 36 Y.O. Red Rifle has the media in a tizzy trying to learn the names of Panther's players to explain why the Raiders got molly-whopped. Maybe Canales is a QB whisperer. Maybe he can turn BY into an asset of greater value. We've already paid the cost.
    • I don't think Bryce is the type to try to divide a locker room, so I doubt its a distraction to keep him
    • What I think about it won't matter, but if he is not causing problems we have a lot tied up in him. He is a big cap charge.  The only leg the Youngs have to stand on is that the team ruined him. There is no more, crappy coaching, no talent around him, that is washed away. So, he is ruined or he just sucks. Those are the choices.  They have to go with ruined. Not a big selling point. They will understand that the only real option is to stay put and try to rehab. I would keep him the year and offseason at least just for the money. Which he gets regardless of how bad he is.
