The Bryce situation reminds me of Josh Rosen (national media)

The media pundits and talking heads practice access journalism. For example, Bama is the face of SEC, which has tentacles all over ESPN (SEC Network is owned by ESPN). Then there are the sports agents who rep these QB prospects. The pundits need to keep all these people, schools, and institutions on their side to gain access to get scoops and stories. The way they maintain access is by hyping up certain prospects and carrying water for certain programs at the behest of agents and schools.

At the end of the day, it's up to individual NFL franchises to hire competent scouts who hunker down, watch tape, and make decisions independent of media hype. Speaking of which, we should give Hoge a try. Hire him as a consultant or scout.

But when you have a GM and/or owner who ignore the scouts and go their own way it doesn't matter.

We've got a chicken and egg problem here. Unless Tepper sells the team, we can only hope he has had enough humble pie and is willing to make some changes in how he approaches his ownership.

He's not selling it so our only hope is that he hires someone to run things that know how to run a successful team. That person would hire and fire all the staff and everyone answers to that person. All Dave needs to do is go to the games and write the checks. He also needs to keep his mouth shut.

He can't be doing the hiring directly though. Instead, he should delegate it to a consulting firm or ask around for help to select the right people who can do the hiring for him.

Either way it takes him out of day to day operations. He can find executives but he couldn't pick a coach or GM if he was handed a short list. He needs to be out of those decisions altogether.

But there is reasons to say this could be a mistake.

1. If Andy gets hurt 1 play into the game.. then what we bring Young back in, days after getting benched? We should have made him inactive and put him on the bench for at least a few weeks.

2. This franchise has a history of throwing out QB's. Baker and Darnold being those examples of those we gave up on..

3. Young has the skills and has proven himself.. at the CFB level.. He had a terrible year last year and a terrible start this year that shattered his confidence instantly after the 1st play this season. I'm not ready to throw that away... but Im not ready to hand the job back to him. Im ok going into the season next year with him still on the roster but like Dave Canales says.. with competition.

One thing you can say is no quarterback has looked good here for an extended period of time since Cam. Sadly Bryce hasn’t looked good at all.

Baker was good before he got to us, so that is a bad example.

Darnold is still bad. Anyone buying fool's gold is going to be very disappointed when they go to collect at seasons end. Don't be fooled by "Panthers 3-0 Darnold." The real story is plain as day.

The real blunder that nobody is talking about is this:

Why didn't we sign another QB to compete with Bryce?

Everyone knows Dalton ain't that dude longterm.  So why wouldn't they have gone after a free-agent with experience?  I've been saying Brissette, Minshew, Tyrod...but literally ANYONE younger with starting experience and upside?  Hell, bring in PJ Walker FFS - that would provide some real competition at least.

If we knew 2 games in about Bryce, we had to have known this offseason...and didn't prepare properly.  That is on the front office.

    • lol It's 2 games in with a broken QB it's too early to tell. I hope Canales works out but this is still funny.
    • Man there truly is no helping the stupid that litters this place
    • This backlash has truly been sad and was part of the reason I believe Bryce was drafted in the first place. He was small and looked like a kid and everybody just loved that he was also good at football. Once I heard CJ Stroud talking on his podcast tour this summer, I was like well that is the reason he isn't here. I remember the hatred for Cam that basically arose out of him being a massive, confident, black man. Every time a new broadcast crew met him during warmups the telecast was just about how larger than life he was. I even had a friend who is close to Cam's size talk about him sucking the air out of every room goes into like being big, loud, and confident is a bad thing. And many here along with the media never showed any sympathy, empathy, or a second thought to the shite Cam had to put up with while here. Till this day it is either about the stupid fumble that didn't matter that he didn't jump on, or that he only had like one good year.  So to see this crazy backlash from the sports and social media regarding Canales benching a small, weak, entitled, non verbal QB who is playing terrible, struggling to recognize defenses, missing open WRs, and leaving clean pockets is mind blowing! Only Chase Daniels watched the film before talking this week. Everyone else used it as an opportunity pine for Bryce and crap on organization. Again, I hope someone is dumb enough to give us Josh Rosen compensation for him.
