Trading Back Could Be Difficult

It's mid-September. There's basically an entire season of college football to be played yet.

It's pretty rare for a Burrow to come out of nowhere to be a clear cut #1 QB in the draft.

Cam actually might have been the last one before him to do that, and even then, that was just because he had to go play JUCO for a year, had he been a starter in D1 as a Sophomore, he'd have been right there with Luck as the top pre-season QB's in college that year

I've advocated for trading back, but have never said a "haul" because I know nobody is giving that up with this QB class, if that were the case, we'd just take the player.

But just looking at the 2025 QB situations, there might just be such a dearth of teams looking for a new QB in the offseason that there isn't even the ability to get ANY trade offers for #1 unless someone falls in love with a non QB that they just have to draft.

My preference would be to try and trade back to the 4-6 range to hopefully pick up a single future 1st, but even that seems lofty expectations in this draft class, and then take our first choice WR (my preference has clearly been shown as T-Mac of course).

Get that true #1 WR in the draft this year and then draft a new QB in 2026 who steps in with a 2nd year stud already to throw to and hope we have a great duo for the next decade because of it.

Obviously another guy or two will pop up but as of right now outside of Manning there isn’t much QB wise in the 2026 class either. Arch isn’t coming here so.

We really should’ve traded for Howell or even Wilson. Someone with an NFL arm that Canales at least run plays 10+ yards downfield for.

Canales will have to pick his QB this offseason so that he gets a fair chance to prove whether or not he’s capable of being a HC

If we're not rolling Bryce out there for slaughter again next season, I'd rather try and trade for like a Joe Milton from NE and just start him for the year and see if we get lucky and strike oil.  If not, then we'll be right there in the Arch sweepstakes anyways.

I'm just firmly against drafting someone next  year, our roster is too void of talent, using another 1st round pick and putting a questionable QB prospect into that situation again is just asking for trouble, need to build up the team properly for once.

Jayden Daniels kinda came out of nowhere to go #2 last year.

Okay, so two QB's in the last 15 drafts have come from nowhere to being taken in the Top 2, and both happened in a year that had an elite pre-season QB prospect (Tua to Burrow and Williams to Daniels).

There could be a future HOFer in next year's class, you never know how these things play out, but every draft expert has been saying since even last year, that the 2025 QB class wasn't looking stellar, unless you fell for the Shedeur hype bullshit

The HEISMAN winner came out of nowhere?

I was pushing for him to go #1. He looked better than Caleb last season and I was high on Caleb early.

He means pre-season, nobody was saying Daniels was going to be a Heisman winner and/or be the #1 QB taken in the draft had there not been a Williams there too.

But even that doesn't happen too often, when they say it's a down class, there usually isn't going to be a guy who explodes to be a no brainer at #1.

Trading up wasn’t dumb. Taking Bryce was dumb. If we had taken Stroud it would have been the best trade in franchise history.

I'm still not even sure of that, we gave up A LOT for that pick, especially when you factor in using some of the assets from the CMC trade as part of it too.

Stroud is clearly going to be good, but had you thrown him into the mess we still had last year around Bryce, there's no guarantee he'd have played near as well and a bad first couple of years can tank a QB's chances.

Wilson is washed up. Howell would've at least been an arm, but it is probably for the best we didn't pursue. The heartbreak of him being on this team would be too much for some fans.
