Hot routes?

Serious question here

Did anyone see any "hot route" options on the Saints blitzes for Bryce to check into.  Is that even an option for him?  Is he allowed to do that or does Canales have to call that for him presnap?

On the play below it looks like two receivers could have run something short for an easy gain, a quick slant or a quick out.  Not sure if Bryce would have hit them but this playcalling looks ridiculous.

I think the biggest problem is Bryce can't read a defense at all.  He never sees where or when a blitz is coming to check in to anything else so we will never know if he's allowed to or not.

You would think these reporters would ask those questions. Canales today seemed to indicate it was his fault.

Reporters gotta ask Canales to really know.

It depends on how much control they’re giving him and how much we have baked in. Stafford for example is given a ton of liberty to adjust and they seem to have designated receivers that are hot on given plays.

If we’re still playing with kid gloves though, they may not be integrating this.  And Bryce isn’t good at getting it out quick with his weird drop back so it may not be practical with him.  Reich let Bryce do kills (2 play options) last year which had pretty brutal results. Overall, I imagine Canales has some sort of option for Bryce, audible or hots— a NFL offense should have some sort of blitz pickup built in.

And he should’ve recognized it…I mean, we had the same CB blitz for 3 sacks lol.

I dunno anymore, but it’s brutal to behold

I read that specifically checked into the wrong protections. He doesn’t know football well enough to be a QB, in addition to all the other problems.

Sanders was literally initially lined up on the line in front of the free pass rusher and Bryce told Sanders to move in the shotgun and block the opposite side for whatever reason. I'd like to see the all 22 for a better angle of the initial formation. I guess it wasn't really an audible because he didn't change anything else about the play, just told Miles to block his right side from the shotgun instead of chipping that guy and being the "hot read" as he was probably designed to do.

Well he spent his entire offseason going shopping and watching YouTube. Maybe he coulda mixed in a little film study to help recognize a blitz. In addition to all his other problems he just doesn’t seem to like playing football all that much.

In the last screenshot he’s looking right at the free rusher and yet he snaps it anyway. Lol.

I don't think Bryce played well - at all. I thought he missed a lot of throws. But watching the film... I don't know if it was as bad as it looked live. The Saints outcoached the Panthers 100% Sunday. It was bad.

On this particular play, the Panthers had numbers on the offensive left side. The WRs never picked up on the fact that it was an all out blitz and ran long developing routes instead of automatically diverting to their "hot" routes. The QB shouldn't necessarily change the play presnap for that. There were 2 receivers on that side and both ran their original routes instead of breaking them off once they saw the DBs blitz. You can see the QB looking to that side waiting on someone to cut off their route. They never did.

Should he have left Sanders out there, or maybe even put him on the left side for pass pro instead? In hindsight, he definitely should have. But he probably didn't anticipate everyone actually coming presnap. The adjustment needed to be made post snap in that case, and it wasn't. Not only on the QB here.

Yeah, he didn't think they were all coming. When they did, the WRs should have broken off their routes. The QB recognized it post snap, but the receivers didn't.

    • I don’t think anyone is rejoicing over Andy Dalton. No one has excepted this being in a rebuild. Tepper (first and foremost) Matt rhule, and Scott Fitterer absolutely dismantled this franchise.    These last 2 games might have been the worst display of football I have ever seen. Highschool level, not even college. Both sides of the ball.
    • There's that whole time of possession thing that keeps the ball away from the opposing offense.  "they have converted two of 22 third-down opportunities"
