Did Tepper ‘meddle’ this past offseason?!?

I like to take a question to an extreme and the answer can become more clear.

say you’re in the kitchen on the phone with your bookie. Wife and kids looking at you. You have to lay every dime you have on if T is driving this bus or not. Every dime. Yes or no. No other option. No worming your way out of it. Yes or no. No maybe. It’s yes or no.

Is there anyone really willing to say no?

So while the team is in total disarray is there a possibility he has learned from his major F up that football isn’t stocks and you can’t pick winners from charts and analytics and this is the first offseason he allowed football guys (Morgan) to do football things

He ignored the simplest analytics.... No 5'10 qb has ever won sht in the NFL...not to mention a Heisman....

It's impossible to know HOW much he meddles but there are very credible nfl insiders like Ben Albright who have alluded to him having way, way too much input into the day to day operations.

It's undisputed however that he has earned a reputation which will prevent us from landing top tier coaches or GM candidates. No one is going to want to come here.

I know everyone is pissed at this guy, we’re about to go 8 seasons without playoffs or semblance of hope

it was painfully obvious last offseason he pushed for the #1 pick with a lopsided trade then compounded that error by in essence forcing Gerber to be the #1 pick.

But this offseason, I haven’t heard much rumblings about him. So while the team is in total disarray is there a possibility he has learned from his major F up that football isn’t stocks and you can’t pick winners from charts and analytics and this is the first offseason he allowed football guys (Morgan) to do football things

So first off, no there was no indication he meddled this offseason. Secondly, Bryce being forced by Tepper is a rumor with no weight behind it. Just another narrative that gets repeated so often people start accepting it as true.

I could readily believe he pushed to trade up to #1, it wasn’t a bad idea as long as we make the right pick. I could also believe that he preferred Bryce even though there’s no evidence of it. The media hype machine was heavily behind Bryce to the point of trying to bury Stroud over that stupid S2 test or whatever it was, and Tepper doesn’t seem football bright enough to see through the hype (lord knows 90% of the huddle wasn’t either). But I’ve seen no actual evidence that he pushed, much less forced Fitterer and Reich to take Bryce. I’ve even seen rumors saying both that Mrs Tepper was smitten with Bryce and that’s “why Tepper forced the pick to be Bryce” and also that Mrs Tepper preferred Stroud but David picked Bryce. It’s crazy how easily people are led by the nose with these rumors.

ripple effect from previous years.

that's why i say no matter what happens, keep bryce in there all year. if BY continues to be this bad, tepper just needs to have it driven into that thick skull of his how this was his fault and he needs to keep out of it next time.

i think this is right, sadly.

panthers were coasting on inertia for a while but its finally ground to a halt

there's nothing to meddle with. it's all gone

We don't have transcripts, true. But smoke/fire correlation is a thing, the Occam's Razor is also a thing, there has been enough to strongly suspect...

And when you look at the eyeball test, who would be the easiest to fool? I believe that could apply to a money guy playing at being a football guy.

Occam’s Razor tells me Bryce was Fitterer’s pick. That’s the simplest answer. It didn’t look like Reich was thrilled with him but the most likely scenario to me is that Fitterer bought the hype, made his case to Tepper, Tepper trusted his GM and got on board. Tepper has specifically NOT meddled enough in the past. He let Rhule give Cam the boot and run the place like a college campus without meddling. He gave Rhule more than two years of meddle-free power.
