I like the current 12 team format with the top 4 teams earning byes. The top 4 seeds just shouldn't have automatic selection criteria IMO. Take the four highest ranked teams. Yeah, there's still going to be controversy and debate. That's going to be the case no matter what. But I think it's the best imperfect option.

To be honest, I hate the idea of re-seeding after a round. That just introduces a whole new round of controversy.

The only solution is to expand to 16 teams and eliminate the bye lol

We could expand to 64.  That way all SEC and BIG10 teams get in. All the teams that don’t make the first playoff end their programs forever.  Next year field shrinks to 62, and shrinks by 2 every following year. Don’t make it, cancel your program from existence. Eventually we are left with 1 team.  The true national champion of college football.

Make the first round all neutral site games, and we're really just talking about who gets the bye.  The formula is pretty close to being really good.

Absolutely on the neutral sites. The away teams in the first round are at a MASSIVE disadvantage in the current format. Now you not only have to win and extra game but it's in a true road game against a playoff caliber opponent. That's bullshit.

That's fine if they lost at the state of their roster being what it is. But to pretend any of the teams are the same is just wanting to just for the sake of trying to push a story especially the Big vs SEC crap based off of it. It's dumb.

Nothing about it is the same as the regular season. You get different players a different prep schedule and different coaches.

I was irritated yesterday because I had to watch bad football and bad officiating I didn't really care who won.

Take these games for what they are. They're exhibitions at best and nobody should care what happens in them until entire teams have to suit up at full strength. 5-10 years ago we could care. The NIL space has changed all of that.

Nah, the bowl system has been bad for almost 30 years now. If you want the reason behind that, it lies squarely on the greed of the TV networks, athletic departments and conferences. The ever expanding pool of teams that make bowl games, the fact that you don't even have to literally have a winning record to get into one just makes 95+% of them into contests that only the two schools involved really care about.

Casual fans only have ever watched "the big teams in the big bowls." Hardcore fans have even become exhausted by the bowl schedule. So, even prior to the BCS and now the playoffs, the bowl games have steadily been devalued every single year. To that point, the players had already started to opt out long before the NIL existed. If anything created a newer bubble in players opting out it would be the transfer portal much more so than the NIL. Even then, it's been an almost exponential rise over the past decade. I 100% understand why the players don't care. These games have almost always been meanginless. Glorified exhibition games of which they really get little benefit.

Whew... that's gonna be something if guys start sitting out fuging playoff games. LOL!

I think that would get clauses added to NIL agreements pretty quick. I don't think the schools really care if they sit out non-playoff games but if top 10 pick prospects start bowing out of the playoffs... oh wee mayne.

yep, they are going to reel this whole thing in IMO.  Players got too much control/power.  No way they allow it to continue.  Be easy to essentially renegotiate/extort a team under the current setup.

I mean, if guys start sitting out playoff games - which honestly under the current system just feels like a matter of time before it starts happening - that's the type of thing that could kill the golden goose. I mean, what's even the point of being a CFB fan if it's that obvious that the NFL bound guys just see this whole thing as a forced pitstop on their way to the league? Which is exactly the case for a lot of these guys, but you kinda of have to keep the charade going. Kinda like how the NFL somehow keeps up an act for fans like most players are signing based on guaranteed money and that's it. Every free agent talks about wanting to go somewhere that they can win, etc. then you watch them sign for a Brinks truck with some bottom feeder. LOL
