I’m obviously biased but I think there is a legit question as to whether SMU stays in the CFP if they lose to Clemson. They would have ZERO wins against teams that finished the season ranked at that point and two losses. Bama has already jumped Miami for basically the same reason.

With that said, I’m not teams should be penalized if they lose in a conference championship game, as it relates to being in the CFP or not. Seeding may be affected, but other than an absolute dismantling, I can’t see penalizing someone for an extra game that they are playing only because they performed so well in the regular season.

Remember when Auburn was penalized for losing in the SEC championship game after beating Bama to get into the game then Bama went to the playoffs after Auburn lost in the game Bama didn't qualify for?

Clemson is in ok, but they'd much rather see Bama in over the losing SMU, SC or a Miami. I know it's about money, but there are a number of 2 loss teams that deserve it more than Bama does. It is what it is though. The CFP will never be like March Madness with its cinderallas and upsets. It'll always be SEC/Big 10 heavy with the other Power guys rounding it out plus one "other school" like Boise St every single damn year. But what really screws it up is Notre Dame. They don't play in a title game so they'll almost always have an "automatic bid" yearly with up to 2 losses. Stop being a fancy bitch and just go ACC football, you Irish dolts.

Based on what the committee has outlined and said….there shouldn’t be room to move a team that doesn’t play up.  Now you can move a team down by losing the championship but they have said you shouldn’t really be penalized for making it and losing.  So winners can go up.  SMU is at 8….so that would be a pretty big ding to drop them below Indiana, Bama, etc (who shouldn’t move)

I think Boise State might get dinged out in a loss.   But it would be essentially a one spot drop.  SMU would have a bigger drop.

but who knows, they want Bama in. Bama got way more eyeballs interested than these small schools

ND has the worse loss off all these teams against Northern Illinois and they are probably going to be gifted the coveted 5 seed. An easy path to the semifinal.

    • I've done some draft stuff and if tmac runs fast at combine- he's my clear #1 for Carolina. People are talking he's slow, I don't believe that. I think after training and focus, he will be 4.4 fast. Even if he's 4.6 he's still a top ten pick.    100% Carolina needs WRS. They only have XL and coker. AT maybe cut and if not he's 78 years old. Most teams carry 6.....one carry the 4...... look at Panthers cap and weak WR pool......... Panthers need to draft 2 WRs and find another UDFA jewel....
    • I'm a huge fan, Tomlin is the single most underrated coach in the nfl.  He rarely makes game breaking mistakes, always has the team prepared, and does an excellent job developing talent.  He is exactly what you want as a head football coach.  He had the steelers keep winning records with Kenny frigging pickett.  He hasn't won it all yet, but he will.  He reminds me alot of his predecessor in Coughlin and another historically incredible black headcoach in tony dungy.
    • I'm starting to lean towards Graham.  Of course, before the combine, all this kind of stuff is up in the air, but the elite have risen to the top and many will stay there. 1.   Hunter is everyone's favorite right now, but a two way at #1 is a little odd.  I read he may be best at corner at the NFL level, and I wouldn't want to spend #1 on a corner.  If he plays both ways in the NFL, ok.  That's what the mocks are saying now.  Jacksonville has a ton of needs. 2.  Raiders and Sandurs seems done. 3.  Giants need a QB bad.  So Ward. 4.  Gets real interesting here. Patriots have their QB and would love to get one of two things....WR1 or a LT to protect him.  They have a choice between McMillan and Campbell.  Some say Campbell is better suited inside, but if you need a LT you have to get him when you can.  It's their choice. 5.  Here we are....a WR1 would complete our future offense minus a stud TE.  Burden had a down year, don't know why, maybe QB was different or injured.  McMillan right now looks to be the top.  I like the idea of a 6'5'' receiver for Bryce.  However, maybe the media is hyping both too much.  Carter seems to be the popular choice, but he's raw, and that's making me nervous.  Which, to me, leaves Graham.  Say what you will about Harbaugh, he cheated, got caught and got away with it, but he assembled real talent at Michigan.  Plus we don't know how healthy Brown will be when he returns.  It would damn sure make us a better team, a safe pick, on one of the most sure elites in the draft.
