Jaycee Horn’s future with the Panthers

We should have arguably gotten more for him, but by the time we're good again he'll be washed.  Best case he'll be a 3rd down back specialist sorta guy by then.

It sucks but the return we got was about as good as it was going to get at that time. If we wanted a huge haul the time to trade him would have been after we cut Cam and had no quarterback and had to rebuild the offensive line.

That was the issue with the contract extension back in 2020. Yes you can look back and say you'd probably still sign him to that deal. But with the benefit of hindsight your immediate goal would be to pair him with a young dynamic QB in the draft ASAP. Unfortunately the cap implications from the contract itself left you with little wiggle room and the powers that be settled for discarded scraps off other teams rosters like Bridgewater and Darnold. But even if you get a do over and acquire that dynamic rookie QB the OL was still a nightmare at best. And you had an owner who thinks himself a football savant because he's a billionaire. Just a quagmire of circumstances from which it was nearly impossible to emerge unscathed.

I harbor no ill will toward McCaffrey. Although I must admit he clearly got fed up and started milking injuries to a degree. Do I necessarily blame him? No. But we did pay him a great deal of money. Anywho I will never root for the Niners though. I will root for them to suck. There is no love lost for that franchise. I despised them through our rivalry during the Harbaugh years and their fans are toxic waste. I never want to see those bandwagoning f*ckers experience winning a Super Bowl. Call me petty if you want 🤷‍♂️

I agree.  I think it's fine to not necessarily like a player but still recognize they were really good.  CMC is one of the most talented Panthers ever, regardless of what any fans think of him.  It's similar to Cam.  There's people who always hated Cam.  But it doesn't change the fact he's the best QB we ever had.

I just think it's kind of a shame because CMC will likely be in the HOF, and probably remembered more as a 49er.  It's like how many people remember Marshall Faulk as a Colt?

Under no circumstance can we sign him to a top dollar contract before the end of the season

We have his 5th year picked up, him and his agent have to understand that he has to play a full season before we can give him a big contract

If he's healthy and playing at an elite level all season, then sure, go ahead and get the deal done before the season is over, but those discussions can't even begin until at least the 12th or so game of the year.

He's missed 31 of a possible 51 games in his career, end of story.

Here is how I see it---if he can bring top value to a team that feels they have all the pieces in place for a run, then his value is high and salary is low---we are not going on a Super Bowl run this year--would a package of picks not serve the rebuild better?  Let's say we need to move up for a QB 3-4 spots. We have 2 first round picks....or let’s say we don't need to move up for a QB--we can draft a top college CB and a top edge rusher, for example.  I can see the team going that direction considering where they are in the developmental process.  Horn getting $30m in 2025 could be bad for the whole team development.  Like passing on the Burns trade with the Rams, for example.

Dude, I’ve been singing this song for years. We didn’t get good value for any of our trades in part because our personnel people had no clue and thought we had some talent and in part because we waited and lost value.

This may sound weird but if Young doesn’t improve enough to be a playoff QB then I’m trading Horn. If Yoinh has a miraculous turn then I see us keeping Horn. We can’t win without a solid QB so as you said, paying Horn through the nose is burning cap to rollover until we can compete and get a good QB.
