How long will the Carolina Panthers rebuild take?

Recommended Posts

The NFL is the league best built for quick turnarounds.

Every year there are players that pop out of nowhere and go from no-names to solid starters. If we can get a couple of those, stay healthy, and get decent QB play we can win 5 games. Add a couple starters next season, looking at 8-9 wins. Repeat, knocking on the playoffs door.

If Bryce doesn’t improve, add 2 years.

The mistake in the rebuild wasn’t hiring Matt Rhule. It was not hiring Steve Wilks who is the only coach to show any semblance of competence under David Tepper’s ownership. The Panthers could have used three years of him stabilizing the ship, developing the roster, and if he couldn’t get over the hump, hiring someone else at that time. It’s just frustrating to watch the team keep hiring the wrong guys.

bro, this team is much further away than just a HC and QB.

Not if we have a great draft around a QB. Texans didn’t just get Stroud and Ryans last year. They also got Will Anderson and Tank Dell. They also had bulked up in prior drafts due to the Tunsil and Watson trades. We did the opposite and traded away tons of draft picks because we had a stupid GM so we need a 2023 Texans like draft and probably another one like that to make up for not having young talent from trades.

Biggest mistake was Fitterer. That led to the personnel mistakes that left us with a team that was lucky to not go 0-17.

Yeah, it's not like the Texans weren't drafting top 10 for the better part of a decade...  They'd had plenty of time to draft players.  Ryans has done an exceptional job of getting those guys to play together.

The Panthers could be rebuilt this year.  I doubt it, but we're going to be better until injuries expose our extreme lack of depth.  That's another important reason we've been playing the bottom of the roster in preseason.  Not to hide Bryce or the 1s, but to evaluate our depth.

When we get a QB, we can get this thing rolling in about 2/3 years.

You know, normally I would agree but this roster is so fuging bad I might be inclined to try and build the team first. Of course, that requires a competent FO and we haven't proven that is there yet.

IF we didn't make a bunch of bad roster decisions in this past offseason/draft it's conceivable it could take as little as 3-4 years to rebuild a top 12 caliber NFL roster.

I think a lot of us are not appreciating how unholy bad this roster is, especially when you get past the starters. Additionally, look at the roster and who would even still be here in 3-4 years. It's more holes than core members.

This is why any hope of building a lasting and GOOD roster are future hopes. It will take years of good drafting and solid FA moves to build something like that.

You all watched the horrifying drafts, epic free agency blunders and terrible trades/wasted resources from trades over the past few years. This is the cost. We aren't magically going to conjure up a good roster from that kind of poo.

But we have to know it's actually STARTED first and that remains to be seen. Otherwise we are still floundering around waiting for an actual rebuild to start.

we could of never fired Ron Rivera and be in a better and more successful place today.  Because that's Wilks.  Heck, we could of just never fired John Fox.  Because it's all the same.

We wished we could evolve past that type/level of football....and now we dream of returning to it.
