1. RG Jack Anderson: 90.3
2. RB Dillon Johnson: 77.3
3. TE Feleipe Franks: 72.0
4. WR Jonathan Mingo: 71.8
5. C Andrew Raym: 68.7

Anderson did work in his Panthers debut, racking up 37 total snaps as the starting right guard. He earned a team-high 88.5 run-blocking grade and a solid 76.0 pass-blocking grade.

Johnson rushed for a game-high 83 yards, which accounted for over half of Carolina’s offensive output (156 total yards). He also scored the team’s only touchdown of their last four games.

20. LT Ricky Lee: 44.7
21. TE Jordan Matthews: 42.5
22. LT Tyler Smith: 38.4

Lee allowed a team-high three pressures, one of which resulted in a sack.

Matthews, who starred in last week’s preseason opener, lost a yard on his lone catch of the night.

Leota, last Thursday’s biggest standout, was charged with two missed tackles.

Richardson and Smith each made a dynamic play, with the former reeling in an interception of UFL MVP Adrian Martinez and the latter a sack—his second of the preseason.

What did we learn from playing the backups?

Offensive LIne

C Andrew Raym stepped up. I wonder if an UDFA at C could help us? 

RG With Zavala backing up LG, would it not be nice to have a reserve RG?  Jack Anderson might earn himself a job if he plays well next week.

Why is this huge?  Brady Christenson can play behind every position, but it could have him focus on RT.  Nijman is coming back soon, so the depth at OL is quite possibly set if this continues.

Running Back

We could use a bruiser--man, Dillon Johnson sure acted like he wants some work.

Quarterback

We are nearly certain to grab a QB off the waiver wire in a little over a week.

OLB Edge 

Leota got a low score because he missed  two tackles, One was underneath him on a pass rush--his responsibility is outside contain.  He was still pressuring the passer (bull rushing mainly)  I think the score is a bit harsh.

Defensive Line

TJ Smith is getting middle pressure and has had 2 good games. However, as a reserve for the Vikings in very limited play, he never got a sack in like 4 years.  Not sure, but maybe a PS assignment?  Gotta learn more about Palmore. 

Inside Linebacker

If you had asked me last month, I would have told you that we are terribly weak at ILB.  However, with Wallace, Cherelus, and now Barrett showing some promise, you have to feel good about ILB and special teams.   I am happy going into the season at ILB.

Defensive Back

Corner:  I am liking what I see from Bootle, Jackson, and Smith Wade.   Still cautiously like Jamison. With Dane and Horn and Hill, this could be a good group.

Safety:  Richardson and Jammi played well.  Not sure where they are playing Jammi at S or Nickel.

So, assuming all come back from injuries quickly, I am more encouraged about the depth now than I was a month ago.  Of course, vs 2s and 3s is hard to gauge, but I look for stuff like mis steps at ILB, speed and power from OLBs, OL technique--primarily footwork and balance.  I would say "better" if giving them a team grade.  From a D- week 1 to a C week 2.

In a year with no expectations for success it argusbly makes more sense to find out who your depth is than be concerned with starters being in tip top form game 1

I think Anderson, Dillon Johnson, and Raym clinched a spot on the PS

On replay Raym looks good. I wouldn't be surprised if he beats out Cade Mayes if he has another good game against the Bills. Jack Anderson looks good at guard as well, those two would free up BC to be the swing tackle

I loved Jordan Matthews in college and wanted the panthers to draft him originally but man he looks washed out there.

Such is the state of the talent of our team right now. Guys who haven’t played in years, guys who were backups as seniors and guys who were never wanted by anyone else are fighting for roster spots.

When you realize that Fitterer gave away 2 1sts, 2 2nds and Moore for Young, a 3rd for Henderson, 6th for Gilmore, 3rd and 4ths for both Corral and Johnson, 2nd, 4th and 6th for Darnold and a 5th for Mayfield, it’s not surprising that we are legitimately trying Jordan Matthews out.

Fitterer was GM for 3 years and he traded away (and used in trade ups) 2 1sts (3 1sts counting Moore), 3 2nds, 3 3rds, 3 4ths and 2 6ths. He basically traded away more than 2 entire drafts worth of talent and all we have to show for it are Young and Johnson. Gee, wonder why are team is bottom tier in talent.

A 5th for mayfield is fine. A 6th for Gilmore is something you do every single time. 
 

also ftr trading up to the first overall pick was the right play, they just ate poo on execution.
