REPORT: Panthers changed the offense 3 times last season

Recommended Posts

Probably started with a full playbook until it became clear we couldn’t execute it.

Then we shifted to west coast style with RPO fishing for consistency.

Then Reich is fired and we get whatever Tabor thought would give him a shot to keep the job.

Inflated excuses.

Pretty much shows tepper had his finger on scale

Yup, Tepper couldn't keep his nose out of the coaching staff's business and made a bad situation worse.  Nothing worse than a micromanaging boss that don't know their arse from a hole in the ground trying to tell experts how to do their jobs.  That's probably the point when Tepper suggested we change the offense/play caller that the backstabbing and snitching started.  The staff went into self preservation mode instead of entirely focusing on coaching the team.

and it’s basically why Canales has his starting O in an underground bunker.  Bryce can’t do what the OC/HC are about on O

Its already evident....Canales has to walk a fine line between what he wants in putting his mark on his team and making a tyrant like Dipper happy... Its a lot more than a coach should have to do... Hes godda jamb the Bryce square peg in the round hole by God.

I think it's pretty evident there were three shifts in the offense. The source mentions changing the offense 3 times but we dont know if that means schemes, playcalling, philosophy/identity or just 3 different iterations. With that said we know there were at least a couple obvious changes to the O last year.

1) The initial Frank Reich offense

2) Thomas Browns itteration of Franks offense when he took over the play calling. While it was still the same playbook the philosophy changed as well as who was making the calls/talking in Bryces ear.

3) The Tabor/Brown collaboration after Reich was axed and was likely heavily influenced by Tepper when reports came out he was wanting to see an offense closer to what Bryce ran at Bama.

Last year was a poo show from top to bottom.

Hopefully Canales and his staff's unified vision and terminology give Bryce a shot to prove himself.

If he doesn't, he'll be on another roster next year and we'll be speculating all winter long what new QB we're going to pick in April.

This article is talking about 3 changes abefore week 1 ever kicked off.   Which really makes sense given Frank’s doom and gloom aura and barely playing a raw rookie his first preseason.

Canales is in a repeat.  But unlike Frank who was at least a vet HC/OC….he could still fake it a little.   Canales doesn’t know how to be a HC yet, OC has never been an OC….then you got a bad QB who can’t plug in to the little you know

3 changes in the offseason + at least 3 in the regular season = 6 changes trying to get Bryce to be able to play.  That’s all you need to know.

all star staff bent over backwards and couldn’t even get in the realm of average/threatening despite the kitchen sink attempt

Dipper gonna have to face reality someday, soon.  He'll prolly throw drinks all over the stadium when he does.

Canales had a year of Young on film and Morgan on the on the inside. He knows what he is walking into, Frank had no idea. It has always felt to me like Frank couldn’t see how it could work.

It's almost like there wasn't complete conviction for him.  Like everyone in the building wasn't completely on board with young.  Surely they wouldn't lie to us

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
