What is the benefit to benching starters for the preseason?

IMO not playing BY and other starters is risk mitigation.  It is a roster that is void of solid talent so in their minds, risk of a starter's injury in the preseason is greater than the benefit of playing them.  I don't like it as I wanted something in the preseason but can see the rationale. 

So I guess instead of me complaining about the performance of the starters in preseason or the coaches playing starters where they get hurt in meaningless games, I have to settle for complaining about the starters not playing.

Didnt Dan say during the in-game interview that since they were #1 on the waiver wire they needed to do a lot more evaluating of the bottom half of the 53 man roster would be?

I could be wrong but I don’t think the upset fans are mad about the losses/wins. They just want to see the starters get reps and look comfortable. It’s why I understand both sides, I just don’t think it’s as big of a deal as people are making it. Thanks for the data though!

I don't really think there is any danger of our starters looking comfortable, so that seems like an unfounded worry.

Do you want to know who has played in the preseason? Williams, Penix, Richardson, Stroud, Maye, Levis, Daniels, Nix and McCarthy. Basically every 1st round QB from last year and this year plus Levis has played in at least one of the preseason games. We have the only 1st round plus top of 2nd QB in the past two years that hasn’t played a down in the preseason.

Right.  It's a working progress regardless.  I'm sure people will blame preseason, but it's really irrelevant.

100% agree. If the "preseason" or camp was at fault then we would suck early and then get better late. If we maintain the same level of suckitude the entire year, that's a pretty safe bet that it was coming no matter what.

People are just putting the cart before the horse here. We have 17 games to watch this nonsense and bitch. Everyone needs to chill out for a couple more weeks. 

But, you know.....maybe this is the Huddle in preseason form too? This could be Huddlers getting their reps in for the regular season. You know what, I have reversed course. This is good practice. Bitch away.
