What is the benefit to benching starters for the preseason?

A) They recognize there is no depth at all behind the starters.

B) They have no money and are trying to get guys reps because if we get thin somewhere this season there isn't much money for outside help.

C) Trying to prevent any injuries to the starting group so item B (see above) does not happen.

Not ideal, but they are playing it safe.

Not according to all the other games I watched, but okay.

Yet other teams have sat their starters.

The Jets sat their starters. Mr Rogers hasn't played significant football in almost 2 years.

Yet they weren't worried about him.

I know...he wasn't a rookie last year. He only didn't play at all.

If you're going to talk out of your ass, please Don't speak like it's factual.

I enjoyed the starters so much last year in preseason. Those extra 8 reps obviously were the key to Young's stellar rookie year.

I resisted and complained for my selfish reasons of wanting to witness what it will look like. Then I let it marinate a while and opened up to it. I can see some reasons for it. My entertainment, not one of those reasons.

The people that understand we have a new paradigm are looking for ways to exploit it. They might be finding it.

Really sucks for the fans though, now the first couple of series are just like the rest of the game,.

Maybe Caneles doesn't think Bryce can get any better ,and has seen all he needs to from him

But if week 1 is the embarrassment we think it will be, he will face questions of why Bryce didn't play in pre-season , after admitting he did no training and just played video games all off season

Can't we just cut this mistake and move on from the 2023 draft already

Playing video games, huh?  Is this the guy we sold the farm for?  What are his positives again?  Some leader.

Saints game plan on defense is pretty easy. Send the house the entire first half and reevaluate at halftime.

It’s a no win for the Panthers at this point. No starting line or Bryce screams weakness. Showing how weak in preseason doesn’t help the cause.

It’s send the house. Only thing changing this is if they get burned with some nasty screens, toss sweeps or end arounds that the CB or safety overplays. This is where Canales has the chance to really impress me. I’m not sure the inside run has a chance in hell. It’ll be 2nd and 11 at best. Starting the game with a screen would be epic.

Preseason have nothing to do with live reps.  They are meaningless games meant to allow the owners to sell more tickets.  in the past, the starters rarely played until the 3rd and then sat out the last preseason game. They do give the backups playing time and a chance to show they belong on the team or any team before cuts.  The coaches know what they have.

I really thought they’d play the starters some. I guess the question is how valuable are a couple of series against the Jets backups versus the potential for injuries. It’s benefit-risk-analysis I guess. It’s one of those things where the coaches can’t win unless the starters go out and look great and stay healthy. Even then folks would point out it was against backups so…

I guess they felt like the scrimmage and regular practices are all they need to evaluate the 1s.
