Santonio Holmes traded to JETS!!!

Things like this and the Randy Moss trade make you wonder what value can be had if you really look for it. If you can get a Santonio holmes( even with his 4 game suspension) for a fifth certainly we can find someone who has some production with one of our late rounders. There are teams with young talented WRs who are buried on the depth chart that could probably do good things here. I'm hoping Fox/Hurney bag a winner in the draft but their history drafting WR's doesn't leave me with a whole lot of confidence. Are you telling me that with a WR deep team like GB we couldn't get a james Jones or Jordy nelson with a 5th or 6th rounder? With Donte Stallworth and Anquan Boldin coming to Baltimore could Mark Clayton be available? Maybe for the right price. Fact is with a record like our current FO has had with drafting WRs, you can't just hope they work out. We need insurance. Even if he turns out to be a good pickup, injuries or off-the field issues can always rear its ugly head. What if (god forbid) Smitty gets injured and we have to throw Dwayne Jarret or Kenneth Moore in.

if steve smith gets hurt we are screwed.

this trade just meens that the steelers are now going to draft a reciever with their first pick so its just going to even out the jets picking a reciever. no benifit for us

Considering they drafted Mike Wallace and Limas Sweed the last 2 years I would have to say...nope

Mike Wallace was a 3rd rounder and Sweed a 2nd.. so they don't have much invested in the WR position.. It would not come as a surprise if they take WR in the 1st..

We sucked at drafting running backs until Deangelo.

to be fair we didn't put as much of an emphasis on RB before than because we thought Steven Davis and Deshaun Foster were good enough. DeAngelo Williams was drafted once we knew Steve Davis was done but before we knew how bad Foster really was. Even then we drafted Stewart because we weren't sure how good Williams could be. Sometimes you just have to realize what areas you are good at and which one you are not. If I want to draft a LB or OL then Carolina is great at that. WR's not so much. Look at NE. They could draft great defensive players and OL but their WRs were average at best. So instead of hoping they'd hit big in an area they didn't do well in they traded for Moss and Welker who had proven talent. I'm not against drafting someone but I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket.

they have plenty of success from it, though...and, as has been said before, they have much bigger needs than WR right now that need to be addressed early. they have a monumentally bad oline, a big need at ILB and CB...they are still going to have to address those first.

going after a WR in the first would be like us going after a OG or a Sam. it just wouldn't make much sense.

Who needs great receiver and Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes when you have Dwayne Jarrett?

Yeah I know right. I mean after 3 years he finally had a good game against 2nd stringers in a completely meaningless game!

anyways, people can't get too upset about not getting Holmes. it's obvious that Steelers didn't take time to shop him around, because I can think of ummmm, around 31 teams in the league that would have given more than a 5th for a 26 year old SB MVP receiver coming off a 1300 yard, 10 TD season. Even the best analysts/'insiders' had no idea that he was on the block.
