Santonio Holmes traded to JETS!!!

The better ? to ask is "How many quality receivers has this FO drafted at all in any round?" That would be none. The best of the panthers Draftees, the tease that is Jarrett and the one-year wonder that was Colbert. If you ask me the saying "If it aint broke don't fix it" only applies if there isn't a problem.

I am a betting man and I like to play the odd. But when talking about hitting on draft prospects you can't just look at the odds of the entire league, you have to factor in you deficiencies in your own abilities. Me personally not so great at projecting Olineman so if I were having constant trouble drafting Olineman I wouldn't continually bang my head against the wall. If a top becomes available you should be willing to change your ways.

As far as Holmes in particular, posters that are worried about the suspension, I tend to disagree. While the chance that he might do it again is there, if your concerned about missing him for 4 weeks a rookie 5th round pick no matter how good (J. Knox) still wouldn't contribute until most likely that timeframe.

Besides his suspension is due to Marijuana, which most likely won't even be illegal in the next year or two (maybe one good thing can come from this dumb a** administration). And even if that is not the case that is one of the stupidest (for him to do it is as well) a person can be fired or suspended for. Some guys can get away with manslaughter but lord forbid some one smokes some Grass.

Obama make pot legal? Me not know this...

Its already a state decision. He basically made it were the Federal Gov't wouldn't enforce the law. Also the FDA finally changed it stance on the health issue of it (basically the number one reason reefer-maniacs use to dismiss the idea of legalization between that and its a gate way drug which is crap). The DEA really have no more room to stand. Public support for legalization is at an all-time high. Its coming.

The point with his suspension, is regardless of the law, would be what his fourth? Which very well lead to a eight game to season ban.

I don't know the whole Holmes situation.. heard something about a rape or something in FL, but just from one person.. perhaps I should look it up..

anyhow, I agree with your 1st 2 paragraphs.. I don't see how anyone isn't frustrated that our team's constant limitations are self-inflicted..

The article I was reading must have been older (he did have a 1 game suspension for that). Need to start reading before I put my foot in my mouth.

qft

Some teams plan to win next season, so at least the NFL as a whole will be interesting.

so how many teams was that that showed how much they don't want to win by passing up on this "gem"?

Don't feed the troll.

seriously?

People who say we are so good that we dont need Santonio are just as bad as the people screaming we should have traded for him.IMO

yeah, who would want that guy? off the field problems or not, you're just delusional if you wouldn't 'rent' this guy for 12 games(possibly more with playoffs) for a damn 5th round pick. That's what the Jets did. They got a 26 year old super bowl MVP, clutch receiver coming off a 1300 yard/10 touchdown season for a 5th round pick.

with that said, I do understand why we didn't get him, and am not mad or frustrated they didn't make a trade. just sayin', I'd also be 100% fine if they had gotten him even if it was only for a season.

It's not that we don't think he's good, it is his personality and what he brings with him that is the turn-off.

if our FO would/could draft just 1 good WR in the last 8 years, both sides would be happy...

let's see how long they can go before they get it right...

I see you didn't anwser the question because you already no the anwser. But I'll ask again. What 5th round pick you or anybody else knows gives you production in the 1st 4 games or the 1st season or the 2nd season of their career. Better then that what Panther 5th round pick in 15-16 years has been a impact in the 1st 4 games or his 1st season, 2nd season, poo even 3rd season? Name me one I'll wait. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. Anybody else you can play this game too. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Well let me explain this if you can't name ANYBODY then that covers your risk poo. The reward totaly out weights the risk. If gets him self straight you have a MVP type WR. IF he fails then guess what cut him you olny lose a 5th ROUND PICK!!!!!!!

Do you not see the math. PLus I don't know if people around here don't this but no team wins with all Alter Boys. You need some thugs mixed in too make your team tough.

LMAO. You make good jokes.

And of course I didn't answer your question; I wasn't going to spend my time looking for the answer so I gave the general answer "not many." And no, with the talent in this draft, it's not worth the risk when you can get so many good players deep into the draft, even if they don't pan out. Look at it this way:

Let's say the Panthers choose some player in the 5th round and it takes them 3 years to become a starter, but they are good and end up playing for 5 more years for the Panthers.

On the other hand, you have a WR who is probably going to miss his first four games with you, then miss a year, possibly go to jail and miss more years. But, let's ignore all that and say he only misses 4 games. Things don't work out anyway due to his attitude and personality (he doesn't give up his habits) and he only stays for a year or two.

Who was of more value in the long run?

Def agree Holmes isn't the best option.

Marshall is. lets see if Bronc's get a 1st in this years draft. if not, we can give him a new contract and have a solid #1 for years.. draft some mediocre WR talent and be set for life until Marshall says he needs help towards the end of his prime..

then, we can have this convo all over again.. lol

;)
