Dexter McCluster vs. Mardy Gilyard

only problems with McCluster? He ran a 4.58 and he's lacking experience in the position he wants to play. He was a hell of a little RB. If you wanted someone to play a Percy Harvin role, he could be that guy. I don't worry of his size, though he's not built to the same level that Steve Smith was, comparatively.

So, because of that it's hard to say that a guy I like this much is still worthy of a 2nd round pricetag.

Gilyard has issues with drops, and for his moniker as a speed guy, he hasn't hit it as fast as you'd want. I mean, Ford's a similar receiver and was a full .2 faster at combine. He smoked the whole field so fair enough, but 4.55 at combine and 4.45 on a fast pro day track aren't the things you'd expect out of a guy who shows up on tape explosive as Gilyard does.

McCluster ran a 4.44 at his proday as well BUT he had the 2nd fastest 20 yard shuttle of any offensive player at the combine. McCluster caught the ball with his hands and not his body. The main knock on McCluster is that he he would have some issues running up the middle, but that's not a worry as a receiver. I do agree that he has the ability to be the next Percy Harvin.

Everybody runs fast at their proday. Combine is an even playing field, and he didn't run that well there. He does motor though, and you're right about his shuttle. He'd have the ability to hit the corner in the backfield, if that's how he was used, but we have enough backs obviously.

I dunno. He's good, and athletic, but for his size, I'd want another gear if he's going top 50.

mccluster would be a great weapon as a slot wr for someone like the pats. i would love to have him, but i could see him gone in the 2nd because a team will maximize his tallents in their system. he would be perfect to replace welker long term. he is a better slot guy than dj and likely moore. he would be competing with dexter jackson and kenny moore for the slot role. idk, but i think his big play ability in space is better than the other options and he could win the spot.

i honestly like mccluster more than gilyard, but unless the team commits to him as a wr, he will be goodson all over again, and we dont need yet another rb (esp that early).

i don't know how quarterbacks throw over defensive and offensive linemen and hit guys under 6 ft running short crossing routes in the slot. i've never been a qb, but that seems difficult. does it just seem tough in my mind, or is it actually difficult?

He is not a big target. That is for sure. I think we should give Goodson the routes and plays we would have McCluster in mind for. A legit return guy is very important. For all the explosiveness McCluster has he has NOT done a lot of returns. Something like 400 yrds in his 4 years. MARDY on the other hand has had 2700 yrds in 4 years. So you really have to ask yourself do we need yet another Running BACK or do we need a return man that contribute in the passing game?

    • I think Stroud is trending toward a 15-20 ranked QB rather then top 7 like many have claimed. Young being such a bust and Stroud playing in a horrible division has helped him along. His mechanics have really started to fall apart. Still a win for Houston, he is a legit franchise QB but as a middle of the pack QB he needs more help.
    • Pretty sure there is a kid zone/play 60 setup at romare Bearden park, which is just outside knights stadium, two blocks from boa.
    • 150 million dollars spent on the OL in free agency and he feels bad for Bryce Young. Not the fans who were told by Bryce how he started his offseason watching Netflix and going shopping. Then in the comments there's some maniac rambling about how Bryce actually had a good deep ball in college only to slink away when someone gives him the actual data compared to other Alabama QB's. The disconnect on realistically evaluating him and the bizarre lengths some will go to form excuses is on another level. I'm ready to see how he plays against the Saints at home. Good thing it's already Friday.
