Official Atlanta Braves Thread

  • 3 weeks later...

It's been a rough two weeks. Panthers and Braves have been killing me. I mostly blame myself, though. I've been busy moving apartments. Haven't really been watching much of the games. I need to do my part and be a better fan if the braves are even going to make the playoffs.

That said, I think I'm going to go to all three games this weekend. It's make it or break it time. They need to sweep the nats. I'll be doing my part. Hopefully, the offense will do theirs.

I can't believe the cubs managed to win that game last night. I was out hanging out with my girlfriend, and just checked my phone periodically to catch an update.

at dinner....3rd inning, 0-0....."They're off to a slow start."

drinks at a bar.....5th inning, 0-0....."Hmmm, gotta pitching duel going on"

arrive at her place.....7th inning, 0-0....."Come on Cubs, you just need 1. You can do this."

a little later.....9th inning, 0-0....."FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, JUST SCORE ONE RUN!!!1!!!!11!"

There is only one solution: hit the ball!

Defense sucks, no getting around it. DLee is a gold glover. Heyward is solid in RF. Everyone else in the field has holes in their defensive game. We are going to have issues winning low scoring ball games.

We need to hit and in bunches. Heyward, Lee, McCann, and Gonzalez are going to have to get it done. They are the ones in the heart of the line-up every night. All of them have shown they are capable to delivering. They are the ones that have to win these games.

That said, the team as a whole needs to see more pitches. One of the reasons we did so well in the regular season is because of how many walks our offense picked up. It seems like everyone is going out there hacking. At this point, I would much rather see a guy get called out looking than seeing one pitch and driving the second one into the dirt. We need to make the opposing starter throw more pitches, even if we don't hit them, at least we'll pick up a couple walks and get to the pen sooner.

GO BRAVES!

    • That's the thing, he's this good and not even a finished product.  A lot of great TEs don't have elite twitch and suddenness to them.  He's a football player through and through and I feel that once he gets to eat/sleep football 24/7 in the NFL, he's going to hone his route tree while refining his breaks/cuts. My only knock on him is he's a bit stiff, which is hampers crisp route running.  Warren strikes me as a gym rat football junkie and I can see that cleaned up in short order...in the course of a season or less.  Unless your name is Brock Bowers, TEs usually don't set the League on fire their rookie season.  I could see him contributing heavily in year 1, none-the-less.
    • I am not sure if it was or wasn't his decision to bring him back, but I am willing to bet that he fires him next offseason.
    • Eh. Evero has been here through now 2 coaching regimes. He also pushed for guys like DJ Johnson and has apparently had significant enough input on some free agency moves too. At this point nobody knows about Canales. Even Bryce Young's progress has to be taken with a grain of salt. The rubber has to meet the road in a big way in 2025. But I think it's fair to say the plan from the front office seems to be to let Canales focus on the offense. Although some people could rightly argue he needs to be more hands on across the roster given the fact his defense was 32/32 last season. And look let's be real here. Virtually everyone here is going to agree Rhule was a conman and not a good NFL head coach by any means. But he did swindle our owner out of a generational amount of money. That cannot be understated. With Reich though while he was not the man for the job he didn't even coach here a full season. Saying he didn't develop anyone while giving our front office a pass for their egregiously subpar drafting before and after he was gone (see our 2024 2nd round pick) seems odd. The simple fact of the matter is we need to both draft significantly better and we need to develop talent better.
