you're drawing a really unfair line between "determined to dismiss" and "not yet optimistic"

fact of the matter is that to me, a player two years away with serious red flags in an organization that needs another starter, either in the rotation or in the outfield (oh god the outfield) is trade bait.

And I know the money thing is an issue but there are a lot of rumors floating around that Liberty Media sees the writing on the wall here (attendance is up 23% this year) and are willing to shell out some dough.

Until recently, you've given me no reason to think you were "not yet optimistic" instead of "determined to dismiss". I understand your point better now.

Personally I'd wait for Jurrjens to get healthy before we decide we need another starter, because we don't. And if we need an upgrade to the outfield, which we do, I'd like to see us bring Schafer back up. He's hitting fairly well through his rehab and is finally off the DL for AAA. If anything we need an upgrade in LF, but Hinske is carrying it fairly well right now, although his torrid pace won't last.

Escobar will come out of his slump, McLouth has shown life this month, and Glaus is hitting the ball now. We're not far from the Phillies offensively, at least this month, and we've got some guys not hitting. Even with the loss today, I think we're in a good spot.

It is pretty cool actually...great time to be a NL East baseball fan. Here it is Memorial Day weeked and all 5 teams are .500 or better and the difference between first place and last is 3.5 games. And Strasburg about to make his debut........the NL East is getting heated and it makes it much more interesting when so many teams are in the running. Hamels and Hudson tonight in the primetime ESPN matchup......should be interesting.
