There's two plays in that clip. Second one is the deep pass. Play starts around the offenses' 45 or the 50 and ball goes to about the 10. At least a 40 yard pass.

Ah I see, my twitter was glitching out

Canales at the podium

  • Great finish to the practice. Significant difference in how they started practice from defense to offense. Defense showed up play one ready to rock with physicality and everything. Offense kind of worked themselves through the first group. Called em up and used it as an opportunity to let them know that this happens in games. Some times one side of the ball is doing well. We have to go to the next play, the next drive. We don't make judgments on the outcome of the game based on the first drill. Final play on the TD to Sanders wasn't by design, but he's been magnificent off schedule. Loves when the energy matches all phases (offense, defense, and special teams). Opened up for questions after those notes/observations.
  • XL had something in his lower leg. Evaluating this afternoon as a precaution and will have more info later. Not what he had to deal with in the spring. Got zero indication on how serious. Was just told there was something going on. Didn't see it.
  • So important to continue to filter guys through because practice squad guys do get the call up. Important for Bryce to know how his targets that get called up from the PS like to move, prefer the ball placed, etc. Also challenges them by getting down roster guys reps with the 1s to see what they're really made of.
  • ISM having a great camp. Dynamic touchdown potential as a returner. Can play inside and outside as a receiver and consistently comes up with plays for them. Taking the challenge to the roster the right way. Love where he's headed.
  • Sees the talent and ability with Wallace. Wants him to step up with certainty: here's the call, here's where I go in the run game or the pass game without hesitation. He can feel it, it's just a different level of preparation that he's not at yet but is heading in the right direction.
  • Coach McPherson is working with JT and his ability to get open. Great opportunity for him with the next man up mentality as Tommy and Ian recover for him to show Bryce how he gets himself available in the passing game.
  • The battles, if they're in the right state of mind, are trying to up their game every day. They're talking to each other and working with each other. They finish runs. Boone caught some good passes in drills. Speaking specifically to Miles, he looks great and is doing the right things.
  • Hoping to see great effort and enthusiasm on Thursday night. Wants to see guys cheering even when they're not on. Wants to see physicality and finishing. Smart plays and smart decisions. Above all, wants to see the team finish the 4th quarter with intensity after starting the game the same way.
  • Still working through whether starters will play on Thursday. Will depend on how healthy the groups are.
  • Feels the pre-snap stuff from Fan Fest have gotten better. Felt the false start was due to fatigue and environment, but gave them an opportunity to experience and adjust. Want to put a strain on the guys so that they have to focus while they're tired.
  • Asked about deep passing since that was a big part of his Bucs offense. Asked why it wasn't being displayed. Canales says that the scheme is fantastic and maximizes the disguise (re: Evero's). Makes it hard to see when that shot will be good. Deep ball production increases the further into camp that they get and more in games. In a practice setting the defense is playing more conservative while in games they're likely to take a risk that you can take a shot on. Would love to see more production yes, but it's difficult against the Panthers' defense.

Canales done. Waiting for the first of the two players for today to come up.

Miles Sanders quickly to the podium!

  • Great mood today and every day. Has his little one with him.
  • Was dealing with his Achilles this summer and nursing that so that he could come out the best he can. Was playful when asked if he's 100% now. Different intensity when he's in camp. Last year is the difference now. Left a bad taste in his mouth but he doesn't want to talk about it. He has something to prove, most importantly to himself. Says we'll see a whole different person.
  • Didn't feel like he was done wrong by the media, but is ready to have a better season.
  • Went to the Dominican Republic for his God son's birthday and the Bahamas for his Mother's Day. Trained the rest of the time.
  • Doesn't really care about folks' perspective re: last season. They don't know what's going on in the building. "It was one of those years." Isn't worried about the competition, just ready to compete, win, and bring people along with him.
  • Didn't need the coach's to talk to them today ("that's a difference between this year and last year. We don't need rah rah speeches."). The team did it themselves, and the players are the ones that are supposed to do that.
  • Didn't see XL go down and didn't know he was out. Was locked in.
  • Different kind of culture than last year (was asked about Calanes' positivity). He's harping on them in the meetings but let's them do their thing on the field. Positivity is a breath of fresh air from last year. It's night and day.
  • Asked about tampering down expectations. Knows to focus every day and players keep each other accountable.
  • First period and practice was over Bryce spoke to everyone. Don't want rah rah speeches just to get everybody going and that's what they talked about.

I think Icky is next. They're moving quick today.

This is so bad. Is there not any vet FA C sitting at home we could bring in? Anything has gotta be better than this

My guess is that'd be one of the 1st waiver claims we bring in...

The Patriots have historically injured our guys, so it's a great idea to sit 1-2nd stringers. Let the fringe guys play.

Icky up

  • Feels like the offense has been progressing. They gotta focus on starting fast, but overall doing well.
  • Mindsets can make things difficult when trying to get on board, so it starts with yourself. It needs to come from within making yourself sure you're ready to go in the morning so that you don't need rah rahs.
  • More consistency in his stances and his pass pro are what he's been working on and most proud of. Took some drill tape that Coach Gilbert showed him and would send film of his drills away from the stadium to Gilbert to make sure he was doing what coach wanted. Was exactly what he meant when talking about using the resources available to him for the offseason.
  • Bryce took a big step forward in pocket presence + awareness. Talked to defense and they say it's hard to defend against him because he's putting the ball steps in advance of where the receivers will be so that they can't get to it.
  • Asked about the three guys between him and OL. More time together == more time to gel. Thinks the OL will be a force later in the year. Also important for the OL to gel with the QB to know where he likes to be pocket depth-wise and better sense where he wants to roll out.
  • Canned responses regarding gelling with new guard + importance of the run game.
  • Excited to see where they are as a team for when they go up against the Jets in joint practice.
  • Clowney is another resource that he is grateful to use. Goes and asks him about what he can do to get better against the rush.
  • Asked about BC playing all five positions on the line in camp. Speaks to his versatility and skillset. It's not easy. Switching from left to right is difficult enough, but to go from tackle to guard to center is impressive.
  • Haven't been watching the Olympics. Won't gas himself up as somebody that could medal in any event, but maybe could play center on 7s when they add that. Was watching fencing and trying to figure out the scoring system. Found it to be impressive and interesting. Will usually have it on in the training room. Was a thrower in high school, did some damage with the shot put and discus. Might be able to do something after 4yrs of training, but not off of the bench.

I've never seen a coach handle a question about a player like that, and said player not be out for the season. So it's almost assuredly a torn Achilles, or possibly a broken ankle. Either way, a mixture of misfortune and poor decision-making could well leave the Panthers' worst four drafts in franchise history as 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Get excited for the Drive for 5 in '25!

I should also add that it's absurdly early and there's no need to label any pick a bust (at any level) before they've played a full year at minimum.

Now, that said, there's a 99% chance this year's draft yields no help for what's already not a top-35 lineup in the league (I'd take a handful of teams' twos over the ones here).

At least we're used to this by now, so losing your first-round WR and second-round RB possibly for the year before they play a game (I'm hopeful for Brooks but remember when Foster's knee injury would have him out "a month or two" at first).
