(By Charles Chandler, [email protected]) Help should be on the way soon for Panthers receiver Steve Smith, says former Dallas Cowboys scouting guru Gil Brandt.p/Brandt, now a draft analyst for a href=http://NFL.com target=_newNFL.com/a, said he has seen Carolina general manager Marty Hurney and coach John Fox frequently at recent pro day workouts for draft prospects and expects them to select a wide receiver with their opening pick, the 48supth/sup overall selection midway through Round 2.

Or we could just use that pick on Brandon Marshall. Hell if it turns out to be a 1 year rental and we make it deep into the playoffs its worth that to me. Kalil is the only 2nd round success we have had since Spoon (R. Marshall is on the fringe of being consider a success). Would most likely be pissed away anyway.

Doubt we would get him for our 2nd.

Even if they were willing to take a 2nd, I would guarantee that someone with a higher 2nd would be in the mix.

I would trade our 2nd next year as well but not unless he had signed a resonable contract extension. I think the money is what it all boils down too. We aren't going to pay him what he deserves (6 or 7 a year) let alone what he wants (10 mill).

that is the point, Carolina has made it known this season isn't about attempting to "win now"....it is a year for young guys to get experience and play so the team knows who is worth keeping when they are ready to "win now".

marshall could fit into that situation pretty well. find out if he is worth the hassle. if he is than work to keep him around/happy. put the right structure around him like shanny was able to do to keep both marshall and cutler focused (which was pretty much the opposite of what that piss ant mckid did).

i know he'll probably be looking for a high $$ contract but if you could arrange something like what the bears did with peppers deal where you have an out after the first year if he doesn't produce then it would/could be a good thing.

I agree, and good idea about his contract. If Hurney and Co. wanted him they would put together something protective and agreeable for both sides. I'd give 2 2nd rounders to have Marshall and Smitty on the field together. Smith, Marshall, Williams, Stewart, thats got potential of epic proportions.
