why do i get the feeling that we will come out slinging the ball through the air vs. arizona?

and will this even be a good idea to start out the game?

I don't know if Davidson scripts the first 15 or 20 plays like some teams do. It would be a good question to ask.

From what I understand we have a specific set and a certain play called but we can audibalize into a run or pass option off that set. So much of whether we run or pass will come down to the defensive setup. If they stack the box, I expect us to come out passing. If the corners play off the receivers expect a few smoke routes early. If they play tight bump and run coverage expect a few plays deep to Smitty or Moose depending on who is in single coverage. Or we run to the outside since the corners will be occupied by the receivers who can more easily block them since they are right there with them.

Jake does a good job of taking what the defense gives them. I expect they will put at least 7 if not 8 in the box and play single on Moose and put a safety on top for Smitty while gambling on first or second down that we will run by dropping the safety down in the box at the snap.

SO I would be surprised if they run or throw regardless of the defense but run or throw depending on the defense.

Even if they do script the 1st plays, they weren't afraid to make changes against the Broncos on the 2nd play of the game and that is a good sign. :coolgleamA:

I would love to see us include the TE in the passing game during the playoffs. Does anyone have a theory as to why we are so reluctant to use the TE in our passing game while other teams use theirs effectively against us? We've only had one scoring pass to the TE all year (the first game against the Chargers). In our offense, the TE is just like another OL, but King does a decent job catching passes as well, though he's not much of a YAC guy. On the other hand, Rosario and Barnidge are very good pass recievers that could really give opposing defenses something to think about and make it more difficult to stack the box IMO. I wonder why Fox won't allow Davidson to use the TEs more in the offensive gameplanning?

    • I find it more like now that I have been forced to watch Young so much it isn’t as much of a shock to my senses.   Desensitized they call it.   For real, it just looks normal almost now. Where the first game of 2023 I wasn’t sure what I was looking at it was so out of bounds for NFL type play. I literally couldn’t make sense of what I had seen vs Atlanta that first week.
    • Lynch in SF. Great is subjective but he has done pretty well there.
    • Sure, except Stroud has the ability to stretch the field with deep passes. He did that often last night with ease, but couldn’t connect on many due to being flustered by the defense. BY9 gets flustered and can’t throw screens, let alone even think about any deeper passes. Stroud would’ve changed the franchise and done more with the situation last year. My thought at least.    the hope is that last year showed tepper that he needed to step back from football decisions. There’s a positive in most situations and maybe we’ll see a new tepper in the near future.
