Allen Park --The Washington Redskins attempted to trade former All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth last week in the deal that brought quarterback Donovan McNabb from the Philadelphia Eagles.

But amid widespread reports the Redskins continue to shop last year's biggest free-agent catch -- with the Lions among the possible trade partners -- ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday cited a high-ranking Redskins source saying the team isn't determined to move Haynesworth.

Still, there's clearly a rift in Washington, with new Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and Haynesworth off to a rocky start. Haynesworth, 28, reportedly is upset about a scheme change that will have him playing nose tackle in a 3-4 defense, while Shanahan isn't happy with, among other things, the defensive star's decision to train away from the team during voluntary offseason workouts this spring.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday night that Shanahan has asked general manager Bruce Allen to explore trade options for Haynesworth prior to the NFL draft (April 22-24), with Tennessee, Detroit, Tampa Bay and Jacksonville mentioned as potential destinations...

...on April 1, the Redskins paid Haynesworth a $21 million option bonus, meaning the ninth-year pro already has pocketed $32 million in his 13 months in Washington. It also means he's due a more palatable $16 million over the next three seasons, with $9 million in guaranteed base salary in 2010 and 2011.

Let's just hope he doesn't get shopped to the Bucs, cuz if they draft suh or mccoy then the bucs interior dline will be a force, well thank god we can run sweeps with dwill and jstew...tampas DTs couldn't catch em

This is one of the reason why NFL lockout is coming next march. Owners are tired of these hugh contracts players are getting. I understand now why owners are not giving in to player demand so easy. I don't blame the owners. Paying players that much money just to play 16 games is way to much money. It's dumb to tell you the truth. No player is worth that kind of money no matter how good he is.:eek6: But I doubt there is any team out there that is willing take this player with this kind of contract at this point. Also age is another factor aswell. Skins are stuck with him.

I think what most are failing to take into concern is that he actually played well when he played at the skins. Its not like they will be hellbent to get rid of him. I just don't see them taking that big of a loss for anything below a 2nd round pick. If they can't get that they'll just keep him. I think he could be a decent/good NT/5 tech.

The only reason not to have Haynesworth in our division is so none of our players get their heads stepped on by his fat a$$

I've tossed the moniker Headstomp Haynesworth around, hoping that it would stick. But it's never really picked up any momentum.

No matter how good he is, or how much he gets paid, that will always be the first thing i think of.

I doubt we try to get him especially if there is a bidding war. But honestly if we can get him it will be hugely cheaper than it would have been to keep Peppers and we will have a dominant DT like we did when we had Jenkins. It will make Brown or Johnson instantly better.

Wishful thinking or something more?

More...Ellis is our only every down DT that's above average and he's injury prone(Hargrove-situational). So we're in desperate need of another DT. Sure there's the draft but with the time it takes a DT to develop vs. an OLB it makes more sense to draft an OLB. Especially for a team that is title contention. The Brown signing was brilliant...an upgrade at DE over Grant and allows us to look harder at other positions. I don't think we're going BPA.
