PFF's Top 50

Please please let this happen and both of them come to the Panthers.  Purdy light years better than BYoung and Shanahan may be the best coach in the NFL.  But dont see the 49ers letting either of them go for a long time.

It's unfortunate that we missed out on Brock Purdy by one pick.

Purdy made the pro bowl, is under a 7th round rookie contract, and received MVP votes last year.

Shanahan has taken his team to the NFCCG in 4 of the last 5 seasons, and the Super Bowl twice in that same timeframe. The main reason they didn't make the super bowl in 2022 was because the above mentioned Brock Purdy's arm fell off in the middle of the game and they sucked after they had no more healthy QBs.

I do not agree with what you have just said due to the aforementioned reasons.

And that's great but do you want a $55-60 mil Brock Purdy? I sure has hell don't. IMO, he's a slightly above average NFL QB with the best assortment of offensive weapons in the NFL.

I get the Shanahan argument too but no one remembers the "almosts" they remember the wins.

More to the point, in their losses, Purdy and Shanahan are two of the biggest reasons why they end up not being able to put it all together.

If we were in the same spot as they were, I wouldn't be arguing for nuking everything. However, we aren't one of the most iconic franchises in NFL history. The standard there is different.

I am okay getting a guy like Purdy at a mid-range contract. Just understand he isn't likely to look like SF Purdy, as we have very few players on our entire offense that would be in the SF two deep.

Purdy would not fare any better than Bryce on our team.

He is basically in Jimmy G's shoes, he is the weak link on the 49ers. Aiyuk, Samuel, Kittle, and CMC, all he has to do is not fug up and walk to 12 wins a season.

I haven’t watched a lot of Purdy but I wouldn’t think of him for a big money QB deal because yes on a lesser team it is a harder job.

OTOH I bet he has a decent deep ball, which we are still wondering whether Young does. And he was taken off the bottom of the barrel. I’d have taken him there over... I mean please.

Every time. Put Young down to second day like 3rd round I’d see a good debate going on.

I went on a short search for Purdy deep ball just so I’d know, found this pretty quick.

okay me and Juan have the same issue. Here is what it said:

QB Brock Purdy is up to 7 completions on 13 throws traveling 30+ air yards this season. He has 3 TDs and 0 INT on those attempts. From 2017-2022, Jimmy Garoppolo had 6 completions on 40 throws of 30+ air yards. He had 2 TD and 6 INTs on those attempts.

Okay this was interesting, I didn’t read the article that included the deep ball stuff above but I just looked at it and they were crediting Purdy’s arm as being stronger than before. Not because of new/repaired ligaments but because of the rehab.

Probably worth reading because I never believed there was much you could do, your arm is what it is. You can torque your base and trunk and do the mechanical stuff and get a better ball but I thought your arm was kind of your arm.

And they still couldnt get it done with 7 top 50 players because the Chiefs have the one that matters, the best QB.

The Chiefs have 6 including the #1 player on the list. The fact that it went to overtime pretty well reflects how fairly evenly they are on paper.

I think Purdy is legit.

Yes he does have the best offensive talent around him as well. Along with having shanny (top 5)calling and designing plays.

Hes still very sharp with placement and doesn't lose games with bad decisions. He honestly reminds me of another 49er QB-alex smith. He's somewhere in the back half of the top 12 QBs, even without elite weapons around him.

He's Alex Smith-ish but he was really just a good NFL QB. Smith was never anywhere near elite, very similar to Purdy.

Now, as down on Purdy as I am, he has played like a first or 2nd round pick, so he is much better than everyone thought.

He is also far worse than most currently think.

you should go over some of the QB stats, purdy is right among the elites.

Now do I want to pay him 60 mill per, nope!! But I don't want to pay anyQB not named malhomes, Jackson, burrow, herbo,  or allen Stoopid silly high money. Honestly Id rather pay baker Mayfield 33 per over 3 years. Still hold him in high standards, plus he's still young.

I know the stats but I also watch him play. He's very much a product of the best collection of offensive talent in the NFL.

The deal is he's not the weakest link of that best in ball unit and he elevates those already elite players. But he's one of those hot topics among QBs, neither of us are alone. I just feel my case is much better, especially after 2023.

Who is then? The rest of those offensive guys are better at their respective positions than Purdy is at his. as evidenced by their ranking on the PFF top 50 and his exclusion.

Explain how he is not the weak link?

    • There's a real physical toll that playing in the NFL takes on the body.  Certain things just won't work the same, which will make some of those challenges painful and hard.  These folks are all rich and have cushy lives to return to.  I'm not saying Cam will leave first, but I can see it after a few episodes when old injuries flare up.  Or he decides he's done with it.
    • His size could work against him…BUT Cam is a weird duck.  He was wired differently.  I would bet on the young Cam that could barely get dressed after a loss….that dude wouldn’t have quit easily IMO.  But that dude doesn’t exist anymore.
    • i got attacked by a housecat once. pretty terrifying.  i was at a friends house and the cat jumped on my lap. it was calm for a minute but then it turned on it's back and bit my hand and sunk it's claws into my arm, all four of them so i grab the thing and pull the thing off my arm, dragging it's claws down my arm. i finally get the crazy thing off and throw it on the ground then it grabs my leg (fortunately i was wearing jeans that day) and the owner, who has just been sitting there in shock watching this happen to this point, grabs the thing and carries it downstairs and throws it outside.  supposedly that cat had never done anything like that before. i had been over there a lot and never had any problems with that cat. but something happened to it and it was never the same. went completely mental. they kept it outside after that. one week they went on vacation for a few days and apparently a stray chow came around and when they got home, the chow had the cat trapped under a car. no telling how long it had been there.  they chased off the chow and the cat ran off and they never saw it again. then that chow came back and hung around for a while and was terrorizing the other animals, including an old horse they had in a pasture. it killed at least one cat that i know of. they called animal control on it and they found it under one of their outbuildings. they figured the only thing they could do is shoot the thing. they shot it with a shot gun and it took one blast and then went running towards the guy who shot it and had to shoot it again.
