Clayton: Campbell Wants Carolina, Does Carolina Want Him?

I think if he becomes an EFA though, they still have to pay him... I think he has until half of the season to show up for anything and still get his paycheck...

If that isn't the case, he'll sign on the 11th hour and get paid starter money to ride the pine... I still don't think Washington will let that happen though...

My take is still that someone - Buffalo, perhaps - will give up more for him than we would.

Intriguing idea out there now...

Buffalo reportedly wants to dump MarShawn Lynch. Knowing how Shanahan loves to run - and seeing that Clinton Portis isn't his favorite guy - I wonder if a Lynch for Campbell trade would make sense.

If that happened, then Clinton Portis would also likely be headed out of town.

I don't think anyone is going to give up anything for Campbell as long as he's a tendered RFA of the Washington Redskins... They'll all sit back, point and laugh at Redskin ownership, as they draft young QBs to fill their needs... Marc Bulger is out there too, along with a few other role filling QBs... Most teams will be content with their options and let Washington take the hit if they so choose...

But if Campbell is released, he'll hold the cards as to where he goes, and that will indicate if he really wants to be competitive (come in here and compete with Moore) or just go somewhere he is guaranteed to start (Oakland?)...

The risk is, by letting it play out like that, some crazy person (Al Davis) could make an offer... But, he's got a couple QBs there that he might just be content with and may be looking at someone like Clausen or McCoy anyways...

dan snider wanted mcnabb as much as anything else. i guess if someone got brady or payton manning the guy they replaced must suck too, even if it was idk brees, ryan, or rivers? snider more than shanahan is the biggest reason why campbell is expendable. snider just makes big splashes as possible every year.

hell i would take mcnabb in that offense over moore or campbell. it was a no brainer for them to pull the trigger. mcnabb>>>>>>moore right now, and mcnabb>>>>>>campbell right now.

long term the move by the skins may bite them in the ass, but if they think they can win now, more power to them to throw picks and $$$ away going for it. if they get the ring it makes it worth it as ultimately that should be the goal, not playing for 2011 or 2012 or 2013 in 2010

better question for people is he the 2nd coming of joey harrington or is he carr? even joey wasnt a total waste as a falcon. good no, but a capable backup and started while they waited to get a qb next year called matt ryan. i would take campbell as a capable backup right now over anyone else, even bulger. campbell is younger and has been durable right now (my knock on bulger is he is a injury risk). if we lost moore (assuming he does well), things get sketchy no matter the backup for almost every team.

atleast campbell could be evaluated as a long term answer if moore went down. if he sucks its a 1 year rental at a high upside guy (more than cantwell) on a team with questions anyway. its carr or harrington all over again, you DO NOT want him in there (well some wanted carr to start the opener, but i digress) but you want to have a high upside future guy there to evaluate atleast with some experiance. if he does well you keep him around (harrington), if not boot him (carr). thats campbell, thats the reason i would target him as a FA, and a 6th or future 5th in a trade. thats tank tyler for a 1st round former starting qb thats fairly young, just saying. moore was a rook qb when he got here thats why carr got the looks 1st. at this point cantwell = moore of 2008, still not the teams backup/starter in waiting. getting a good backup or a starter for a 5th at the qb position would be great at this point looking at the roster, and he is young with experiance to boot.

if we want to draft our guy then this is moot, campbell + moore would block the drafted player (assuming both dont suck). then you get a bulger or a mccown back and hope they dont ever see the field, but can hand off and throw 15 a game while moore gets back. or you punt the season and fire the rookie into the fire over mccown/bulger.

Redskins already have Willie Parker, Larry Johnson, and Clinton Portis.

Not gonna happen.

None of those three guys is any good any longer.

I beg to differ.

Clinton Portis was having a decent year until he went down with an injury. He had just under 497 yards in 8 games, which is not good but it is not bad either. He missed the 8 remaining games with an injury

Willie Parker missed two weeks of action and also backed up Mendenhall for most of the year. He could really help the Skins if given the oppurtunity to play.

Larry Johnson was just stuck in a bad situation with Kansas City. He also missed two weeks of action and he was playing on an awful Chiefs team until he was finally traded to the Bengals. He still managed to rack up 581 yards.

I think the Skins will be alright at running back.
