Clayton: Campbell Wants Carolina, Does Carolina Want Him?

Not for picks. We have very few already and lots of holes to fill. If he is released I wouldn't mind it. Sending picks for him would put a lot of pressure to start him.

Uh considering that there are 7 rounds which means there are 7 picks for each team and we have 8, how do you consider that very few?

Also keep in mind that the Panthers are in the market for a QB and would most likely draft one either with their 3-6 round picks, therefore why not just give up a 4th (if they are already planning on drafting a QB) for a more experienced but young QB?

and what pressure are you talking about? Every team has competition and it will be no different here. Moore is definately the guy going into camp but as I said in a previous post, we have to have competition.

If we could send Washington our 4th or 5th rounder NEXT year for him straight up, I'd do it...

I'm not sure I'd give up this year's fourth though, only because we have three big needs (WR, LB, and DL) and that would only be our third pick... Granted, I take our need for a QB about equal with DT or DE, so we could very well see QB as our third biggest need and send this year's 4th...

I don't think that is our front office's MO though, and at best, we'll wait it out and hope they simply release him, or make a draft day trade of our 4th for him if we somehow get a 1st or an extra second or third from another team (trading next year's first again, or someon wanting Richard Marshall)...

I'd bet the 'skins just cut him once they don't get the offer they are looking for...

Some people just make up arguments that sounds good....

Seriously though how many people actually watched watched Campbell last year???

My issue without him is lack of confidence and poor decision making... I feel no need to make Moore Compete with him for the position as I believe it would do more harm than good.

I can admit I was all over Jake's sack for years... I'm still hoping he does well in Cleveland. I was against putting Moore in. Now that he is the starter I am ready to see him one full off season being the man, taking all the reps, no competition, his job. Let us see what he does this year...

If he fails we will have our early round draft pick next year to address the starting QB position.

It's the familiarity of the arguments that most gets me...

"It's not his fault; he was just on a bad team"

"Some of his stats look pretty good"

"He just needs a change of scenery"

"Sure, he has problems, but our coaches can fix them"

Where have I heard those arguments before? :(

The difference is that Carr welcomed the chance to sit the bench for a while and basically be rebuilt from the ground up (circumstances prevented it from happening) while Campbell wants to remain a starter.

Bottom line is I think the 'skins won't get more than a 6th round offer, if they get any offers at all... Teams out there know that they will release him if that is the only viable option, as they won't want to pay him the amount that his tender will guarantee...

He'll become a UFA, and he can come here for as little we want to pay him, if he wants to come here that bad...

The ball is in our court if it comes to that, but it all depends on the desparation of other owners/GMs and what they would give up...

Also of note, and someone correct me if I am wrong, but Campbell hasn't signed his tender either, so he could continue to do so for a long time and punish the Redskins by having to pay him this season... Ultimately, they know this, and it is another reason they'll rescind the tag if it comes down to it...

Correct except for the "long time" part. He has only until April 14th to negotiate with other teams. After that, he essentially becomes an exclusive rights player.
