Clayton: Campbell Wants Carolina, Does Carolina Want Him?

Did you? Campbell was playing great the last 2 or 3 games of the year...

Really???

3 losses, 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 10 sacks, qb rating of 57, 64, 101...

And most of the okay stats came in the last game in the season when they were like us playing a team whom starters played limited minutes in San Diego.

That's when he scored 2 of those td's no int's 1 sack and the 101 rating...

So did you watch???

You would think by now that Panthers fans would realize being blindly committed to one quarterback can be a terrible thing.

Jakes final seasons.... It was not an issue when Jake first took over and was having his winning ways.

The thing is Moore hasn't even had a chance to be committed to yet. Now is his chance to step up. Whereas Jake was proving to me and others why we shouldn't be committed to him, as I said Moore has not had his fair shot yet... The way he finished the season he earned the right to be the unquestioned starter entering this season.

My thoughts on this topic:

After re-watching the press conference releasing Jake Delhomme, I feel that Moore is truly the QB going INTO CAMP....

However, it never hurts to bring in a QB to compete with Moore because, as you know, competition brings out the best in all of us, no matter what the situation is.

That said, bringing in Campbell is not a bad idea and I think he could benefit more from our offense then he would from being in a WCO. His slow delivery just doesn't fit the WCO but might fit ours because of the fact that we are a more balanced team then the Redskins.

Also, lets keep in mind that for those oppose to giving up draft picks that at some point in the draft that the Panthers would most likely draft a QB anyways, why not just give up a 4th or 6th round for him?

Now, I want to be clear and say that I am a Moore supporter but again, competition will not hurt him but clearly make him better. Also, I know many seem to be under the impression that Moore needs a mentor... Why? He has been mentored by Romo, Johnson, McCown, and Delhomme for the last 3 seasons, how much more mentoring does he need?

Just my two cents

Carolina has a better chance of getting to the Superbowl. AND he has a potential chance to start.

I don't know if Carolina has a better chance of getting to the SB than the 49ers do right now.

He has a potential chance to start, but he's competing with a guy (Moore) who has built up all kinds of good mojo with the coaching staff and has been studying our playbook for 3 years. Campbell is knocking on 30 and doesn't have time to be a potential starter, if I was him I'd be looking for a decent team where I had a chance to start from day 1 like the 49ers...

So stats tell the entire story?

Yes I did watch because I have been saying the panthers should go after Campbell for a long time.

Well if those were his "Great" games as you said, then wow we better sign him up now!!!! Not the whole story, but it assist in helping to paint a picture.

Seriously, I watched him play also because of all the talk on the board here last season about acquiring him... As I said before I saw hesitation, and poor decision making... too me I saw enough to know I don't want him here.

I mean if he wants to accept a backup role that’s fine, but I doubt that's what he is looking for. Like others had said he probably believes he can have an open competition in Carolina and I see no reason for Moore to split reps this off season.

Campbell didn't/couldn't pass deep last year, maybe because it was "run for your life" behind their offensive line, their top RB's and TE got injured, while they're still waiting for 08 WR 2nd round draft picks Thomas and Kelly to really start producing.

I agree Campbell didn't look good last season as they struggled greatly to score points, but he still threw for 3,500+ yards, and he had a strong arm when he entered the league.

I don't want Campbell as a starter, but he would be a solid backup QB (in case Moore gets injured, or can't hold the starting job), better than any QB the Panthers can draft this year, with 3 1/2 years of starting experience.

At only $3.168 million (his 1 year RFA tender), he's a good bit cheaper than any other veteran QB the Panthers can get with that much experience. Remember, A. J. Feeley will be making $3 million this season with the Rams.

this is a point know one is looking at? how much would it cost to get a vet with that much experience here? $3-$4 mil maybe.

also exactly why is campbell so horrible?

i would like to see a stats comparison, not just the stupid " i watch about 3 of his games and he looked bad to me!!" answer. also how many offenses has he had to learn over his career?
