Clayton: Campbell Wants Carolina, Does Carolina Want Him?

can't trade comp. picks

we could try sending them next years 5th.

damn... thanks for telling me, lol.

Yeah, honestly I don't think they'll be asking much for him. They only tendered the 1st and 3rd rounder b/c he was all they really had at QB til they found something better.

We do still have our own 6th and 7th this year (non-comp. picks), maybe that would be enough?

Ryan in Wilmington, N.C., writes: Forget about Jason Campbell. What about the Panthers having a true viable alternative to Moore with Marc Bulger? I want Moore to get his chance, but I'd feel a lot more comfortable having a true vet like Bulger in case things don't go so well and Campbell is more questionable than Moore is in my opinion.

Pat Yasinskas: I think the Panthers have to at least consider Bulger. He’s a veteran and has done some good things. But at this point in his career, is he that much better than Jake Delhomme? Not so sure. If I were the Panthers, I'd want to sit down with Bulger first and see exactly what his mindset is (see Garcia question above). I’d prefer the Campbell scenario, even though there are no guarantees with Campbell. But Campbell still has upside. I say bring in Campbell, throw him out there with Moore and see if one of them rises up. One of those two guys just might emerge as a franchise quarterback -- at least in Carolina’s system.

I doubt we will trade for him unless it is a future pick or a sixth rounder. He has some utility as a quarterback but won't be a mentor or might not be comfortable as a backup. If he were he might be a good choice. Given Buffalo, Oakland and a mystery team, I can see why he wants to go to Carolina. I also doubt we pay him that much either. If he is willing to work for 3 million or so we might have him but not if he wants starter pay. We are going to pay Moore a big chunk of change next year and won't want to give that much to Campbell to sit the bench and learn a new system.

I think that is the key…..

I would consider trading next year’s third rounder for him. We should get a third rounder pick from Peppers so it wouldn’t be that big of a hit. I really do not want to trade picks from this year’s draft because it is so deep.
