Jason Cole's been a pretty reliable reporter, from what I can remember of him. And given what's happened, it makes some sense.

Still, standing up and saying "hey, I'm better than Donovan McNabb" based on 11 games played and 2 starts? Yikes :eek:

I think Kolb's leverage was given to him by the Eagles. His idea of his value was given to him by the Eagles staff and FO by how he was treated behind closed doors... He wouldn't do anything like that if he knew they thought he sucked and wasn't a true heir to Donovan's job. So he took advantage of the power they gave him.

No Don's not a primadonna, he earned it. The guy has been the best QB they ever had and has been a Top QB in the league for years now, regardless of what Philly fans say. Plus, he's been a stand up guy throughout his career and has dealt with more crap than I can ever remember a QB of his caliber having to deal with, and he always took the high road. He earned the right to force their hand.

It comes down to money, and they both wanted it.

Kolb was going to sign a bid deal at some point, as was Don....The Eagles were only going to pay one of them. Kolb is young, Don is getting old, and it was a long term gamble vs. a short term payoff.

There will probably be a dip for a year, and maybe two, but the long term success of the franchise is better by making this move.

It's something that we should have been doing more of, but instead Marty had a win now attitude, and a one more piece can put us over the hump outlook.

McNabb is obviously better than Kolb, and has developed more of a relationship with the players so they have more chemistry, however.. Eagles are one of the youngest teams in the league, and by letting him go they're setting up for a pretty good team in the future.

I agree that they will likely struggle next year.

I would think we would be younger then them and our starting QB has more then 2 games starting under his belt. I really can't see how anyone can automatically think Kolb is better then Moore when Moore has more expierenced and has played better in those starts (at least this season).

Kolb was going to get a payday regardless. It was smart on his part - he had the leverage and used it. I don't think it was a "i'm better than McNabb" thing but more of a "everyone on the planet knows you're not resigning McNabb - you need me more than I need you".

That statement is false......McNabb's chemistry with the vast majority of the team was always a question. Even the few players that he might have had chemistry with are gone. The young skill players that make up this team made it clear they relate much more to Kolb. Not saying that results in wins but I don't think you will hear much griping coming from the Eagles locker room that McNabb is gone.

The bottom line is, the Eagles got the right value for Donovan and they have a ton of picks in the draft to address their big needs, CB, OLB, S. They could be a player to trade up and get a Sean Weatherspoon or Eric Berry. This may be a bad trade for them this year, but ultimately I think they made the right move.

Exactly.....and they had 2 QB's that had lame duck contracts. One of them was going to be a casualty because neither would accept an extension as a without knowing 100% that they were going to be the starter. Eagles chose the unproven one with upside. Will it work out? Who knows but that was the right move (only move) considering the youth movement the team is in.

ah, Mr Scot.. not a big fan of how you worded this (although I understand it is to generate discussion)

McNabb of all people deserves to find a place he enjoys playing. Ever since the moment he was name an Eagle, he's been criticized.. He has been the best QB the Eagles have seen. So f**k yeah he deserves to go where he wants..

just had to get that out there...

as for Kolb, yes, very ballsy, but no one ever made it by being weak and useless in the chances they take.

As for the Eagles, Patriots, and successful teams alike- they get rid of old players while they still have value and bring in younger players to fill the void.

There is a reason the Patriots and Eagles have a huuuuge amount of picks in the first day.. makes it easier to replenish a roster that way.. instead of waiting until players can barely walk..
