Panthers interested in Jason Campbell

So if we take Campbell, are we going to go to a WCO? That's what the Redskins run, if anyone's paying attention.

I think he's got talent, and I think he might be salvageable goods, but I'm not sold that we're the right team for him. The only way he might help us is if Moore gets injured, so if we take him we're hedging against injury instead of working to get better. I prefer the latter approach.

And as far as Campbell vs. a young draft pick, I prefer the young draft pick. Campbell is good. I don't think he'll ever be great, and there's been enough film on him that I think a ton of NFL talent evaluators also agree with that. At least with a draft pick you still have the chance of getting someone great. Maybe even the top-rated passer in SEC history... ;)

It's easier to go from a WCO system to a non-WCO one, then vice-versa. Plus, he'd be handing the ball off the majority of the time.

Tell that to Frank Garcia...

Jamarcus Russell?

The Golden Calf of Bristol. Russell wasn't even close.

I cant imagine that many of you have watched Campbell play very often. I have watched almost every Skins game for the past two years. Not once during those two years (of the games he played) did I think for even a second that he was even a quality backup in the NFL. And neither did my roommate (who is a die hard Skins fan) He makes TERRIBLE decisions, always hesitates to pull the trigger and is rarely accurate on anything but check downs. It seemed like he checked down 90% of the time no matter where the check down receiver was, who was covering him, or how many receivers were open down field. It was like watching a badly wired robot screw a clothes washer. Sorry for the rant, but damn stats don't tell the story, the kid is garbage.

That profile sounds vaguely familiar... :sosp:

I've never seen a QB with at times such lackluster play be so fervently defended by those in the media. Well since maybe delhomme, but that's only really the local media

It's not his fault! Things are hurting his development that are out of his control! *smooch smooch*

Switching offensive coordinators doesn't keep you from completing 4-yard out routes.

He must be the nicest guy in the world.

agreed. I know all the parts didn't work exceptionally well there, but it's not like they didn't have Cooley, Moss, Portis, and Randle-El out there either.

Chances are much better that he is what we see now. He's a guy who is somewhat efficient, takes a lot of sacks, doesn't throw many interceptions and doesn't make many plays. Wholly and completely average, and with no upside or room to grow.

Guy's a 6th year. At some point, sack up and get after it. I also like the idea that somehow, since he struggles so much with change in system, that transplanting him doesn't mean even more struggle.

Well have you even paid any attention to the line in front of him? Or how about their monkey of a head coach and their offensive coordinator who was calling bingo before being named their new OC midseason?

Their o-line was by far the worst I have ever seen. He always had less than 2 seconds to make a decision because if he didn't, he was gonna get sacked. So, he got into the mentality of looking for the check down receiver for nearly all of his pass plays. And don't get me started on Zorn:

He called that.

The fact is that he was surrounded by a horrible coaching staff and a terrible o-line. But he was great in college and did pretty decent last year despite the flaws on the skins. And I'd just like for him to get another chance here.

If I recall correctly, the Skins had already taken away Zorn's playcalling abilities by that game, I think.

Yeah, as the OC. He still had control over this and the 2 minute offense. But I just felt that this perfectly exemplified Zorn as their head coach.

Oh, and Campbell had to deal with him as the QB coach too.
