Who is the biggest Hollywood icon ever?

I say Clint Eastwood. Nevermind his own film catalogue. Look at the great films he has directed over the years. From Play Misty for me to yet another movie getting Oscar nods with Invictus.

From spaghetti westerns to his own Iconic Dirty Harry characters I say he is the top.

Dude even composed a few films. The man can do and has done it all.

I have to agree. He started in Movies (Had a bit part in a Francis the Talking Mule movie) moved to TV (Rowdy Yates, Rawhide!) then he took off from there!

Yeah but guys...icon. Iconic. Like worldwide, the face of hollywood. I think Clint would def be on the Mount Rushmore of movies--and yeah, Sports Talk, he's definitely the hardest working, I just don't know if he's the most iconic--which doesn't necessarily just mean success.

Marilyn was definitely an icon, but I'm very surprised there's been no mention of Audrey Hepburn. She's arguably more iconic than any Hollywood actress ever. Honestly, I've seen more Holly Golightly t-shirts, purses, bags, posters, et al then I've ever seen of Monroe memorabilia.

Personally, I like Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly to hold the mantle of all time Hollywood icons.

When I think of someone, He or She is an icon, I think of them as still living.

Granted Elvis, Marilyn & Steve McQueen lead the licensing of dead stars. But is that really Iconic?

i·con·ic [ ī kónnik ]

adjective

Definition:

1. characterized by fame: relating to or characteristic of somebody or something admired as an icon

Their fame has grown to iconic proportions.

i·con [  kòn ] (plural i·cons)

noun

Definition:

2. somebody famous for something: somebody or something widely and uncritically admired, especially somebody or something symbolizing a movement or field of activity

the all-time rock'n'roll icon

I guess they don't have to be living by definition, but I still think that Clint has such a multifaceted career. (Acting, Producing, Directing) That he would be hard to beat.
