Why Cleveland may have snagged Delhomme so quickly

Mike Vick sat his 1ST year too..
well....he did end up starting those last couple games of his first season and he played in several more.

most of the time, esp. in the past few years they have tried to get them out on the field as quickly as possible. that is the expectation and unless there is something wrong they will get the start at some point that first year.

it's sad when it doesn't work out because guys get gun shy. case in point- David Carr.

They needed QB help bad. So bad, that even Jake Delhomme was an upgrade. That says something about their QB, that at times, fans for begging us to trade for either one of their ex QB's.

While it is obvious they will need to draft another QB, whom it is, no one will know.

carson is the exception. most of the time the teams/fanbase are chomping at the bit to get that 1sst rounder in there. usually if a high draft pick QB doesn't start much his first year it's because there is something very wrong with him.

i agree, though. i wish more teams would sit them for a year or two...i just don't see many teams having that kind of patience.

I really don't believe this at all. While there are some that start from day one, many coaches and FO's would rather sit the first year QB's, and I agree with them.

Rodgers, Rivers, Palmer, etc....

There are some that "had" to start because of injury....Flacco, and Roethlisberger, but the FO had said they wanted them to sit for a while.

IMO the QB's need to sit for at least a year, but personally I would prefer more.

There's wisdom in letting a quarterback mature for a season on the bench, but sometimes a coach will find a rookie that just has it.

Peyton Manning went straight into the game as a rookie, and it was a rough year, but he had the stuff to make it. On the flip side, Favre took a year on the Falcons bench to grow up and it wasn't until Majokowski (sp?) went down that they were forced to take a shot at the Mississippi boy.

(Of course, maturity and Favre are well, let's just say he's older...).

I just have to think that Holmgren is looking for his franchise quarterback and he wants to surround the guy with the people that will coach him up on character, drive and desire to win.
