Don't worry about the secondary in this game

Recommended Posts

Being a fan of a former 3 time superbowl champion franchise. I know a little something about a team or defense stepping it up when it's crunch time. Carolina's defense reminds me alot of our defense in previous years. Active smart Linebackers, good outside cover guys, and a safety who has been in some big games. Don't worry, John Fox and that coaching staff is like what we've had. They will come up with a game plan for Fitzgerald and company before this weekend and make the neccessary adjustments needed. I mean, in the game of philosophy and matchups. I don't think Lucas or Gamble will have any problems matching up with either Bolden or Fitzgerald. Both corners are at least 6'0 feet and pretty athletic guys and pretty instinctive. They will be fine. And Breaston will be up against Richard Marshall, who to me is the best NICKEL cornerback in the game. The real worry will be for Arizona and how they try to get some kind of a runninggame going before they try to go one dimensional in the air against a Peppers lead pash rush, and a ball hawking secondary/ LB core in Carolina.

Note - one stradegy that John Fox uses, that is absolutely genious at that is he uses his defensive backfield talent to his advantage in substitutions. Part of the reason he drafted another top CB talent is for one word, not coolness, not dopeness but FRESHness. He knows that if he has 3 good cover guys that when offenses are in just a 2 WR set, that he can substitute and pull one Corner out so he can rest knowing that the other guy can pick up the slack for the previous corner that was in. And what this does, is keep the corners fresh and winded so that they maintain their performance throughout the game knowing that not all the time do #1 WRs get to come in and out of the games to get rest. This stradegy can lead to big 3rd down stops, broken up pass plays and interceptions due to the Receiver quitting on his route in fatigue and the corner able to make a play on the ball due to him being well rested and Fresh. Football is a game of chess, and with John Fox and Mike Trgavoc. I like my chances

Yeah, but that was the first game and I think Charles Godfrey is starting to get it now. Starting to understand the importance of his role in reading coverages and assisting the outside cover guys during the right situations. He did a good job in the NO game last week, hell almost for the whole game. Just a few more kinks in his philosophy and football defensive pshycology and they will be a lights out secondary. And I think they will have him ready for this upcoming showdown. You see with Carolina, its not a lack of talent. Because obviously they are one of the more talented secondaries in the league. But with them its all about philosophy and approach. Why do I blow my coverages, why doesn't my safety understand proper timing and technique, why am I overpursuing and giving too much cushion to the WRs. Once, they address those issues which they will this week is when they will be fine and back to themselves defensively. And besides, Carolina leaves alot of INTs on the field but they will address that problem and clean it up.

We had several starters out in the previous Arizona game didn't we? Hopefully everybody will be healthy and ready to go come game time.

Otah and Kalil were out. I don't recall anyone on D being out, though. We have made a lot of adjustments in our dime coverage since then, though.

we just have to get pressude on the qb...plain and simple...have more complex blitzes to confuse the oline and kurt will struggle

We were getting good pressure on Warner the first game, it didn't work out too well.

We have to get good pressure every single down, and good coverage.
