Potential logo and name.

I honestly never thought about the Bobcats being named after Bob Johnson, lol until these posts. Good chance a lot of people are like me. Winning is more important than a name, so let's focus on that.

If they were truly named after Bob Johnson, they would be the Charlotte Douchebags

Don't know if this have been posted or who made it, but I want this as colors and logo.

Thanks.

You know, that not a bad design. I think maybe a different name for a plane or something would be better though. But I like that logo so far.

BTW, you know I'm not a casual fan KT. This is MY hometeam, the Hornets abandoned me, but I adopted the Bobcats from day one... B/c it's my team. Can't change that. lol

But, I'm in favor of the name change b/c I just think the Bobcats has too many negative connotations. I get tired of watching anchors on Sportscenter say "Bob's cats" trying to be funny.

I appreciate BJ brought the team here, but to have fans suggest and vote for names and then bust out a name after yourself that no one had previously heard of was just kind annoying. But, nevertheless, I've followed every game and pulled for this team every night.

Honestly, it wouldn't hurt me too much if we kept the name, but I feel like we need a rebirth. At the same time, I can understand why people say it's already our identity now, but I feel like we can draw more people into the arena with a better name and logo. Either way this is my team just the same and that won't change, but I am in favor of the name change.

Well said, man!

Why do you think people hate Bob Johnson? Because he owned BET? I just don't get this argument.

He always tend to think some hate Bob Johnson because they are racist, when Bob is kinda bit of that. And I don't hate Bob, just don't like his ego. Especially with calling out Charlotte.

How do you feel about Jerry Richardson's ego in calling out Julius Peppers and basically making him want to to gtfo of Charlotte?

I don't remeber him ever calling out Pep & telling him to GTFO. Even if he did, he was right with what Pep have done lately. And the fact Pep is quite greedy with signing for the Bears for a lot of money. :P

I'd also like to add, although I mentioned I didn't like that BJ named the team after himself, KT pointed out to me that it was a myth...

And with what I've heard about the observer recently, and admittedly not being satisfied with their amount of coverage, I don't know if it's true or not that BJ named it after himself... But like I said, I find it very likely that he would name it after himself - it was his team, he paid for it. And it could've been "wildcats" or "cougars" etc. "Bobcats" is just too coincidental to not be named after him. And as I said, I don't really trust the observer, but I do remember even reading on ESPN when we got the franchise about the possible names and Bobcats was never mentioned as one being voted on. Putting all that together, that's why I have to believe that BJ did name it after himself.

Honestly, I've mentioned this on the BCP board, but I favor the name change for multiple reasons, and BJ is the least of them. I don't care what he did wrong as the owner. He made some mistakes (the start-up TV network), but that's not why I want the name change. I've thought the Bobcats name and logo were corny from the jump.

As I also said earlier in this thread, the secondary logo and jersey/primary colors change have made a huge difference. But the name Bobcats is just corny to me. And before we changed the jerseys I mentioned on BCP that we looked like a group of guys who assembled a rec. league team sponsored by the same people that make construction signs. The whole package was corny.

Using orange as an accent color rather than the primary has made a great difference. I don't mind at all keep the colors the way they are. And to be clear, I've asked for a name change way before the ghey observer started their crap on it. I actually told my friend I wish we would change it prolly in our first year b/c I thought it would help get national attention and I didn't think people took us seriously, almost like we weren't even a real NBA franchise.

But, as I said previously, it won't really bother me either way whether we keep or get rid of the name, it's just my preference that we did b/c I believe it will ultimately benefit our team to the umpteenth degree.

And as far as BJ, I did beg for him to leave... Not at the beginning though. It really started after the crap with cutting costs, the tv deal, and then that he seemed angry at fans... BUT, I will point out, that I developed that perception from things I read, and I can't totally say I know the facts in all that was said and what happened b/c I wasn't there and I don't trust everything the media tries to put out there. It could've very well been that Bob was frustrated with his portrayal in local media and had every right to lash out, I don't know, never will.

The facts that I do know is the things he actually did - the tv deal, trading okafor for chandler, etc.

And for everyone saying it would cost so much money, we already spent a significant amount of money in changing the uniforms once. Why would it be a problem if we changed them again along with signage and other merchandise. Because I didn't whine when I went out and got an authentic Okafor jersey only to have the color scheme/design change the next season with little notice and then having him traded away for cost cutting reasons... Not cool to wear outdated jersey's of ex-players, ANYWHERE lol.

As far as Bob, again, I'm thankful he brought the franchise here, but honestly I wanted MJ to be the owner from day one - that's been since I had heard he was trying to buy the Bucks from Kohl or whoever it was... And actually, when I heard BJ was going to look into being the owner of a possible expansion franchise here, I was excited. It was just the mistakes that followed that soured me. BJ is still good in my book - I grew up on BET, 106&park with AJ & Free (ohhhhh Free... smh, lol)... But, it was clear both sides BJ and the community got to a point where the relationship couldn't be salvaged.

I get pissed at the ignorance I read on some forums about the Bobcats, and I know that contributed to the tryst between BJ and the community... He sensed it and it pissed him off - it would me too. I gave BJ a fair shot, I can't say the same for everyone else.

Long story short, BJ is the least of the reasons as to why I want the name change, but I just wanted to clarify where I stood on the general discussion after reading some of these other threads/posts...

OUT.

for the last time bob did not name the team after himself, of the three names that fans and nba exe. put as finalist(flight, dragons, bobcats),he chose the one he liked and the one the NBA LEAGUE OFFICE THOUGHT WAS BEST. if you have read the article posted on the first page of this thread clearly shows this. i don't doubt that bob' ego may have had some little part but does anybody think that MJ with his massive ego would not change it if he thought that" bob named it after himself "myth were true when before now he wouldn't even let them use his name or image to support the team? the people that are clamoring for the change are(1)fans who think it might helpthe team get more support(2)mostly people who WILL NEVER SUPPORT THIS TEAM. either way MJ won't take this matter up for atleast 2 years and then it would be another 2 years before we could see any change. and if MJ ever sold the team i guess we would have to change it again if he named it flight because he named after himself. how about we just do like prince did back in the day and just go by some symbol?"the team formally known as bobcats/flight/hornets"

True or not, it is the perception that he did name them after himself.

And like I have stated before perceptions count.

MJ4Life, even in the face of overwhelming evidence, even though Bob himself said that he didnt name the team after himself, even though anyone with a shred of business knowledge knows financial decisions like these go thru many channels and arent made on a whim, certain people are still gonna believe what they want to believe. By definition that is called IGNORANCE.

I have no doubt in my mind that if Bob were a white business owner, people would take him at face value at what he said that he didnt name the team after himself. And if he were a white business owner it wouldnt bother them one bit if he did like a JB Duke or Bruton Smith any of the other local businesses that we've patronized all of our lives named after superwealthy white man. There wouldnt be the "investment" and "going behind" on business decisions, people would respect the decisions of said white business owner as being final. Instead posters insist he's a liar and bitch about business decisions made 7 years ago. The importance of portraying Bob as the "egomaniac black billionaire" is for people to justify their blind hatred towards him. All of this hate & ignorance was taught by the Charlotte Observer, any we all now see that. Any and everyone who's complained about this issue, patronizes their product. Thats not a coincidence.

Saying Bob named the team after himself is no different than saying Obama is a muslim or he's not American. Or saying blacks arent smart enough to play QB or point guard. It doesnt matter if isnt true, its the perception thats important. The ends justifies the means to some folks. And we're suppposed to cater to these people? :frown2:

Yeah, because people always tell to truth.

If we dont like the team name or the owner, it must be because he is black and sucessful. Not because the team name is stupid.

Yep, its because we are all stupid racists, who can't objectivly disagree with someone of a different color. It has to be because we are jealous of the black man.

Congrats KT, you again managed to take a decent debate into the racial thing. My friend, you never cease to amaze me, and as long as good folks like yourself are around, racism will never die in this country.
