Tidbit on Dante Wesley

Murph

Recommended Posts

I took it as Dante was offered a two year deal and he initially turned it down perhaps hoping they would offer more or he thought another team would. But instead the Panthers got Hudson and now the offer no longer stands. And here he still sits on the open market.

Could be I'm reading too much into it.

Doubt it. His value is only as a special teamer, anything else is a bonus. He's just not very good outside of being a gunner. Should've took what we offered, no he's out of a job. I'm sure someone will give him a chance to compete in TC/Preseason before too late though.

actually once they found out how he can be used on defense he was pretty good. it took them too long to find out how he could be used but once they gave him the joker role he did well. i also liked him as a backup for chris harris. not really starter material but if he was then he probably wouldn't be a back up.

that said...losing him doesn't bother me all that much. as long as we don't have a drop off at gunner i'm cool. by the looks of it, there isn't a drop off.

I didn't think he ever backed up Harris, Teal came in for Harris.

But, you're right about the "Joker" role... Problem is, we hardly ever have to use that in a game. I remember him doing it a few times during the season and he was effective at it, but we don't hardly use it. Maybe we should just sign him back and let him try to play LB, lol...

nah...he had moved up in front of teal and was seeing the field a whole lot more.

and we had started to use it quite a bit the last few weeks. those 3 man rushes usually had wesley on the field. it proved to be pretty effective.

no reason to think they won't build on that next year.

Yeah but I remember everytime he came in, he would walk up next to the DT and act like he was going to blitz and then would drop into coverage. I only remember him actually blitzing maybe once or twice.

It definitely provided us a different look, and proved useful as I do remember seeing it more towards the end of the season as we were winning.

I'm not saying you're wrong about him coming in for Harris, I just don't remember him ever lining up at safety. Only remember him playing in Dime packages and as the joker... I thought Teal did pretty well backing up Harris at the beginning of the year and I thought he was the main guy behind Harris for the whole season.
