Giants thought they would have to give up more in trade for Brian Burns

Morgan was on board against the trade as well

I mean if we are perfectly honest neither are or were qualified to be a GM.

Unless you ask Mr. Scot who literally believes teams were fighting over Fit for some reason.

We got good value for CMC at the time. that said, Burns is gone and we spent that money well, at least I think so

I highly disagree. He’s one of the best players in the league. We have spend a sh*t ton of money, and draft capital trying to replace his production, and haven’t even come close. We would be MUCH better with CMC still on our team. That trade looks horrible now and we should have never done it. Burns….i believe that’s another story though. He’s not impacting games like CMC

Says who?

All I have seen is rumors and innuendo.  We don't know what was discussed behind closed doors.

Says our beat reporter.

water under the bridge and all but its not a good look

There may be 3ish non qbs (maybe) that you wouldnt make that trade for but I doubt its even that high.

Morgan was second in command behind Scott Fitterer in 2022 when the Panthers rejected the Rams’ offer just days after trading All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers. The lone dissenting voice was former salary cap and contracts executive Samir Suleiman, who believed the Panthers should take the picks for Burns, according to three sources familiar with the discussions.

Thanks.

Maybe, but it could just be that they agreed to agree in public but had private disagreements.  We will never know for certain.  But if its true, maybe we should have kept Suleiman.

I just didn’t want them to pay him was my biggest thing.

The two firsts deal, I felt like Tepper wanted to keep him but that is just guessing. You are nuts to reject at least pursuing it. If they offered that initially it is only a starting point.

The CMC trade was awful.

CMC for '23 2nd*, '23 3rd, '23 4th, '24 5th

-2nd was part of Bryce Young trade, 3rd & 4th were traded to PIT to draft DJ Johnson, 5th** swapped with NYG

We traded the contract--got 2 players who will make a huge impact on our offense than a DE who gets a sack every other game.  I hate to lose him, but I think this will give our guys a chance to step up.

I look at differences.  What is the difference between Burns and Clowney?  Burns is an A player and Clowney is a B player.  What is the difference between our Guards and Center last season and our Guards and Center this season?  LG was a D-, RG was a D-, Center was a D.  We should get an A at RG, B at LG, and C at center. Bigger difference for same money--and our QB will evolve from an F to a C, for example.  I can also see our RBs improving from C- to B.

    • Yeah I think they are wanting to let XL and Coker develop, but I don't see nothing wrong with a speed guy on day 2
    • Finding that dance partner will be difficult and who's to say the team trading up has not offer a package to 5th, 6th, 7th??? They did and were turned down most likely.    I still feel 8th is the hot spot for OT run. If you want the best OT/OL in the draft, 8th is the way.    *But Ive been reading lots of Jets and others having Membou as their pick. Banks and Campbell are right there in great value terms. The whole deal is that pick for the Panthers, they are not looking to spend a top resource on OL, 31 other teams are.    I've also been seeing sanders falling out of the top ten, I just have a hard time buying that. ALso seen dart being drafted in the top ten. FYI last year NO ONE had a 1st round grade on Bo Nix and many thought Michael Penix Jr. was at best late 1st early 2nd. I laugh hard at the failcons drafting Penix at 8th, but I stopped laughing during that week 18 game.... he looked legit......barf....  So... one team could easily trade up for sanders or dart or begin the OL run or Jeanty causes a stir as he falls.  There are legit options, Brandt and Dan get paid for this...
    • I'm with you.  Even an extra 3rd would help.  None of the players you listed are elite though.  Sadly there are very few of those in this draft, but there are a lot of good players in the late first and into the second. We need to realize that we can't get all our needs in this year's draft.  We know we need some sort of edge, a safety, and I feel we need to use one of first 4 picks on a CB, preferably 3rd at latest.  And I want to draft an OT in 3rd to learn behind Moton this year. The extra 2nd would be huge.  2 things Bear Hands has noted in other threads, we can get a rusher in the mid rounds of the first, and if a good LT is available at our pick we should be able to get a deal. I'm ok.  If the media takes are close, trading back to around 15 should get us a second, and since our second is near the end of that round, getting one earlier opens up a whole lot of opportunities.  Either way, Canales builds his infrastructure with this draft.  Next year, with all our picks and probably picking somewhere between 10 and 15, we can get real stars.   All of this depends on hitting on picks this year.
