Theilin reminded me of Hubbard. People were talking about how well Hubbard played and he looked good because of how bad Sanders was. Like the tallest Midget. Theilin and Hubbard were serviceable because the rest of the players were bad and they got volume. Not saying that they weren’t giving it all they had, which is why they stood out, but they weren’t solid starters on most teams.

Last night Bryce Young, Terrace Marshall and Jonathan Mingo were spotted taking in a baseball game. Today the group, with the addition of Xavier Legette and others, were putting in that work on the field.

I never said he should be one of the starting 2.  

Nice attempt at saying our best receiver last year is washed up though.

Thielen isn't sexy but he pairs well with Bryce IMO.  There's a reason why Bryce fed Thielen in the passing game...cause he excels in the short-intermediate range where Bryce is most comfortable throwing (hopefully that changes), and he's the only true route runner we had.  Diontae Johnson on paper seems to be an upgraded version of Thielen who can excel in that role, but I'm not sure that relegates Thielen to the bench.  I think benching the one receiver Bryce has proven rapport with is risky.

He doesn't have a super star contract but we're the only team that was going to pay him what we did.  There was not a bidding war for his services.  He's a role player at this point in his career, and we brought him on as a core piece.  That's the Bobcats part of this.

The one game young was not throwing thielen the ball he caught 11 145 and 13.2 average.....who knows how great a year he could have had with a different qb.

I would add that I don't hate Adam Thielen.  He did as well as you could have possibly expected last season.  I don't like that he's by far our best WR.  And I honestly don't think he enjoys that either.

Good point, but 5-82 and 1 TD were in the last 2 minutes of the 3rd through the 4th quarter. When your QB throws 58 passes and the D gives up 37, the WRs will have stats. Not trying to say Thielen was bad but that Thielen and Hubbard looked way better because they were the only competent offensive players.

I strongly disagree.  Not every receiver needs to get yards after catch or catch a lot of deep throws.  Sometimes you need guys that get open and make clutch catches.  Thielen isn't a deep threat , but that doesn't mean he is washed.  He could and should play a role similar to that of Jericho Cotchery or Ricky Proehl during their time here.  The issue last year was we didn't have a Steve Smith or even a Ted Ginn to pair him with, and didn't have a passing game that could get it to those guys if they were open for longer passes.

Even if all true, doesn't mean he is washed. Just means we had an inept offense. Him and Hubbard are both decent NFL players.  

 

And fwiw, it's an offensive league if Mahomes is your QB. Otherwise, it's still a league that needs some balance (run, pass, defense, special teams) to win

The best trait a WR can have is the ability to catch the ball. No speed, quickness, stopping power will matter if the WR can not catch. He simply will never make the team. You must have great hands, then its a ultra bonus with speed/quickness. 

Imagine last season without thielen........ That could have been historically bad. I think he was near tops in 3rd convos and this offense could not move the ball past the 50 most games with him. Just shows how bad this team was given Adam carried it......Honestly I see why the Viking moved one and you are right above.

I am pretty sure we could have had steve smith in his prime and randy moss and b young led team would not have done much better but maybe i am wrong and he takes a big leap this year.  I agree theilen was a great addition for us and played awesome and he did so despite horrific qb play.  I mean extrapolate the one andy dalton game with him over the entire season....yeah i know thats a stretch but andy dalton all season he makes rhe probowl.
