I mean the optics certainly blows considering we heard they were stepping back.  Maybe they know the fanbase hates them maybe they dont.  Its tough to totally get on board with this new regime if you think the teppers are still pulling the strings.  One way to alleviate that, simply tell the team that put this together to not focus on them.  Simple.  Again its minuscule all things considered but it doesnt really give us faith that they are truly stepping back.  Nobody gives a fug who you like in the draft nicole.

The clips in this episode don’t appear to focus as much attention the Teppers as in past years. And that’s to be expected. But it isn’t realistic to expect a micromanager like Tepper to take himself out of the picture, or for Dan Morgan to not keep him engaged in the process. He is the owner, as much as we hate to admit it, and the man that hired him.

I liked Canales in this video.  Dude is a hype man of positive energy but also knows when to chill.  He's new to this as well and is probably just sitting there taking everything in and learning.  Perhaps he's just of the mindset that it's his job to coach up what players he is provided but he did put input in when needed.  I feel he's a guy that also puts trust in his coordinators and their judgements so a lot of things were probably already talked about and went over when they came up with their board.  He probably had more say during that process I'd guess.

If anything, I wish Evero had more say in the video but guess that makes sense with the heavy offense picks.  Evero is a guy who has an ability to make something out of nothing as we seen already.  I'm excited to get HIS guys on the team because right now, I trust his judgement on players.

That's one thing I've caught with Canales so far.  He's definitely got that overly positive energy, but he's not some unaware guy who makes the players feel awkward.  He knows where to tone it down.

Overall, it was a solid production. Good vid.  What stood out to me (cheerleading time):

Tillis seems to be a good compliment to the decision making room.  Wasn't clear how the guy would fit in, but it's nice to see he does have a football acumen and is part of the dialogue for building this team.

Hunt and Robinson look like great pickups for both sides of the ball.  Confident, know what they bring and how they fit, love the mentality, seem like really competitive edgy personalities to bring to the team.  Those are guys that could bring in a bit of a personality and intensity to the team.

Trevin--I still have a good feeling with this pick.  He's in a really good spot to grow into a great LB for our base cover-6.  His traits are perfect for how Evero could use him with Jewell if Shaq exits after this year.

Reading between the lines, Morgan mentioned some DBs (at the end of R2) Sainristil, Rakestraw and Green went off the board (so they clearly liked those guys)..and then we felt comfortable trading back with Dru Philips, Colson there.  So, they must have viewed Trevin pretty similar value wise.  Sounded like they had their eyes set on him right after the trade/a few picks before so it's likely they had him as LB2 over Colson - not to mention guys like Brugler and over at PFF had him as LB2 as well.  Lofa Tatupu hyping him up, some good backup there as well.

The Panthers Blueprint:

Puts out a 43 minute episode about FA and Draft with the Teppers getting 1 minute 30 of collective Screen Time

The Huddle:

fuging Teppers always getting involved front and center.

But Ricky... that 12sec of Nicole Tepper idly chit-chatting with Dan Morgan was really her meddling so that they'd draft the player she thinks gives the best hugs!! 🙃

le sigh

I really don't see how anyone can see this video as a negative.  Yes it has to get through Panthers PR since they are the ones releasing it so I'm sure it only highlighted good things.  You can tell this was Morgan's baby with previous input from Canales with his "he was the one we really liked" "he is one of us" comments.  Morgan is literally explaining to Tepper the players they like and where they can get them.  Tepper is the owner and will be in the War Room, but through the eyes of the video (yes that's a big disclaimer) it was Morgan's draft with Tillis helping him move around to get his guys.  That's the way it should be.  He brought the scouts in for the later round players.

To me, it really seems like just searching for reasons to bitch about Tepper. The fact he was even shown is the sin of the video. How dare they remind us he is the Team's owner?

We don’t need to look for reasons to bitch about Tepper on a normal day.

But yep, people don’t like him much and are happier when he is out of sight out of mind. Currently he is just toxic.

They are selling the new players to us. It is nice but means nothing really. What they do will determine if they are worth having.

I think it’s just showing behind the scenes of their preparation and how/why they drafted the way they did. People are looking too much into this little promo video.

The seemingly required content where people thank the Teppers is weird but after watching a few times all I saw was Morgan explaining the moves to the owner. Nothing weird about that.

Surprised that there was so much discussion about the Teppers but nothing about Morgan saying when the DBs started coming off of the board that they had to shift strategies. This was between the Brooks + Wallace selections.

The DBs that went between Brooks + Wallace were...

  • 2.15 (#47) - NYG - Tyler Nubin, S, Minnesota
  • 2.18 (#50) - WAS - Mike Sainristil, CB, Michigan
  • 2.26 (#58) - GB - Javon Bullard, S, Georgia
  • 2.28 (#60) - BUF - Cole Bishop, S, Utah
  • 2.29 (#61) - DET - Ennis Rakestraw Jr, CB, Missouri
  • 2.32 (#64) - SF - Renardo Green, CB, Florida State
  • 3.6 (#70) - NYG - Andru Phillips, CB, Kentucky

I think that the team was targeting Sainristil or Phillips based off of pre-draft chatter + scouting profiles. The fact that they got Chau Smith-Wade later on and not a safety leads me to believe that it was definitely a CB, likely a nickel. Sainristil especially fits that mold, plus him saying that the Panthers said they might take him in the second round.

Now THAT is what I felt was off about the whole thing. Like Tepper was offscreen with a gun pointed at them telling them to say something nice randomly for no reason.

Tepper: "Now mention how awesome we are for the folks at home"

Dan: "Is that relevant?"

I'm pretty sure they are just handed a script to read for this type of filler fluff.

Parts of it I am sure.  I like seeing the conversations in the War Room during the draft.

    • Yeah and he succeeded at an even higher level in LA with an even better surrounding cast. Goff is a guy that isn't really able to dramatically elevate players around him but he can make a good situation even better. He is capable of that. Some QB's aren't. I am not sure Dak is able to do that and he is in a similar "class" as Goff, IMO.
    • i think i could handle that for a year. beyond that....i don't know.  back where we lived, when we had a few inches of snow, it might have been a couple feet because we weren't getting out and doing anything. i remember times where power would go out for days on end. we had propane and electric heat, depending on the floor. basement (had a couple bedrooms and a living room and kitchen down there) and main floor had gas logs. main floor gas logs was enough to take care of the upstairs, so we could stay warm and cook on the grill when we needed. we had a well so that was always an issue when the power went out. had to make sure tubs were filled with water for the toilets and we had gallons of water for drinking and cooking available. always had to make sure we were ready. that wasn't always the case. we had a couple moments where we were going through propane quickly and because we were dealing with the worst propane company in the world (amerigas) they wouldn't get out to put gas in our 900 gallon tank. made for some nerve racking moments.  i know y'all were probably a lot more able to handle that kind of thing, but after the little bit (comparatively) that we got here i just have no desire to get trapped again. maybe for a day or two a year get snowed in and i'm good.
    • I think he is just drawing a DC to them line and that's about as far as his thought process went. It makes almost no sense outside of that. Also, it doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh or Seattle at this juncture either.  I think our "veteran" pool is basically gonna be the Dalton/Flacco tier or the "pick your poison" options of young busts(Jones/Z. Wilson) or wild, TO prone gunslingers(Darnold/Winston/etc). We have the option to pursue I genuinely believe(depending on the way the rest of this season goes), we either draft a QB in the top 10 or resign Dalton. Outlier third option on taking one of the wild gunslingers that Dave feels like he can work with.
